racerx260
I'm want to increase the off boost tourqe on my turbo motor. If I use a n42 head on a turbo low end I should end up with about a 8.4 cr depending on the head gasket. How much boost is safe to run with the stock ecu and no intercooler?I live in the mountains and I need tourqe more than peak h.p.With the dished pistons and the n42 head chamber I will be at more risk for detonation , would a 1 mm hd gasket be best? I have read that the head temperature sending unit for the turbo can be moved to the thermostat housing ,will that work ok? And lastly if iI did run an intercooler how much boost could I run with this setup?I have done many serches and found great info but am con cerned about the specifics listed above. Cruez
I am pretty sure that the N42 is going to be too much for a turbo... unless you are going to change the pistons... I am not the most proficient on the L6ET... I would think without the intercooler... you could bump it a few psi, but not much, you will have to watch for detonation... It would be very wise to get an intercooler for running higher boost levels... even a small one..
proxlamus©
i ran a turbo on my n47/n42 combo.. noo biggie.. just use an intercooler.. and i used a stock head gasket.. tuning is the key.. TUNING
racerx260
I am using the dished turbo pistons in a .40 overbore. If I use a 2mm head gasket it might go down to 8.3 cr. how much boost did you run PrOxLaMuS ? Was that with or without the intercooler?thanks
510six
My last motor with forged pistons and an N33 head was right at 8-1 with a 1mm NISMO head gasket. The current setup uses an N42 head that has been ported and ceramic coated and the comp is 8.5-1 with forged pistons and a 1mm head gasket. With the ceramic coating combustion chamber heat is more evenly distributed. You might want to look into a methanol injection kit in addition to your intercooler to help with detonation . http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sss510six/detail?.dir=63ef&.dnm=2b09.jpg&.src=ph http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sss510six/detail?.dir=63ef&.dnm=d75c.jpg&.src=ph http://www.coolingmist.com/
racerx260
Thanks for the imput but I'm still wondering how much boost are we talking here?can I run a stock 7 lbs of boost with no intercooler or would I need one just to run 7? I've seen many posts with hp info on low compression turbo motors with various mods and boost levels but not much on what to expect with n/a level cr and low boost levels.Any one with numers on what I could expect? big-phil
no more than 10 psi I'm running 15 psi with I/C and bigger injectors....
racerx260
Is that 10 with or without the ic?Does the n47 have a place to hook up the head temp connector ? I saw a post where they put the sending unit in the thermostat housing.
proxlamus©
DO not run more than 10psi with no intercooler.. I ran 15psi with my Z.. and a Isuzu Diesal NPR intercooler.. she was fine
510six
You could get away with running over 10psi with methanol/water injection, of course it`s just a chemical intercooler.
racerx260
What timing do you use on a 8.4 cr turbo motor with turbo dizy and ecu? I'm at 26 btdc now . would you run stock timing for an n/a motor with 8.3 cr? whats that about 8 to 12 btdc?
