12.2 inch rotors are a work of Art!!!

Recommended Posts

Got my 12.2 inch X 1.25 rotors in from Mike/SCCA last night and man are they HUGE!!!! Also VERY Nice looking and well engineered! I hope to have the rotors bolted onto the front hubs and hubs installed by this afternoon and if I do I'll put some pics up on the homepage. I can't wait to get the rest of the suspension done so I can get this car rolling around again!!!

Mike,

Just a heads up for you with those big (wide) rotors. When I helped Rob installed the Wilwood setup on his Z - very similar to your new setup we hit a snag. We had the entire conversion done car down off the stands started rolling it out of the garage and heard this awful scraping noise - Rob's face turned white. Back up she went on the stands spun the front wheels - nothing. As it turns out, when the weight of car is down on the front end the nose of A-arm (by the ball joint) hits and scraps on the inside surface of the rotor. Remember you are using a 1.25" width rotor and the OEM is what about 1/2" at the most. All turned out fine, and no damage was done to the new rotors but we had to take a die grinder to that curved surface of the a-arm and remove material along the entire radius for turns too!

I just wanted to warn you from getting the conversion done only to have to pull everything apart. Just isn't that obvious when the car is in the air of this gottcha.

I'm waiting for pics first! Hell, I've not even got the rear brakes done yet! IF I get all excited and go for these how easy would it be to switch from the 240SX to say OutLaw in the rear w/spot calipers? Really looking for a bolt-on as opposed to weld on here guys....

...Yea they are gonna work with the Wilwoods, but keep in mind that the bolt on bracket I'm using is the old JCR aluminum $200 brackets. I don't know where else you could get this bracket in the right offset... Also, another question, should I put the rear calipers in front of (LEading or trailing the axle), or behind the rear axle?

Mike, I'm pretty sure the brake caliper won't fit in back of the stub axle, and you'll need to put the brackets on with the caliper in front of (LEADING) the stub. Try mocking it up to see if the caliper will hit the strut tube with it trailing. The other issue is hose length. Try that both ways as well.

I'm 99% sure any disc setup on the rear will have to be put on LEADING.

$200 huh? Hrm, that's a touch steep but that is for a PAIR right? The regular Maxima brackets that no one can find were a bit over $100 for a pair or was that even higher? If there was an E-brake in the mix I might be able to hack something in the $150 range maybe. That's hoping that I'd not have to pull the stub axle to install them - a problem with the Maxima brackets I believe.

As it stands now JCR has yet to respond to my message to them. I indicated that there might be some demand here for them - I guess they're not real interested.

Snap some pics Mike, let us take a gander! smile.gif

you guys oughta see the billit aluminum brackits & willwood calipers on back of my car.all i had to do was torch off backing plate and bolt on brackit with 3 bolts.use 84 300 zx rear rotors.have to keep pressure turned down -wheels lock easy.this was a 20 minute per side install.no park brake though.
