palauoriginal
ok so i was putting my driver side front strut assembly back into my car from changing the springs and bushings and as i tip it over to clear the fender this oil comes from where the strut cartridge is. the thing is that i noticed that the strut was easier to push down then the passenger side struts...is my strut blown or is my gland nut not tight? if its not blown and its weak and leaking because i didnt tighten the gland nut all the way can i recharge my struts with thicker oil? wat kind should i use? thnks guys
JMortensen
Most people put oil in the strut housing to conduct heat from the insert to the housing. It also keeps the strut from rusting in the tube. That's probably what it was. If you want to replace it just use a couple ounces of motor oil or ATF.
veritech-z
the strut is blown. All that oil that was in there should have been inside the strut cartridge. When I did my struts, I siphoned out enough strut oil from all four cases to fill up a small zephyrhills water bottle...
