Guest BigBlockMan
Sorry guys i know its not a chevy but they are both GM so i figured it was better than in the ford forums. I am thinking about trying to put my Buick 455 into a Z. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as far as clearance issues or anything like that. Maybe there is some sort of other Big Block that has been put in that could give me an idea of what i am up against. Any help would be greatly appricated. grumpyvette
having built a few 455 buick engines in the past I think youll find this info interesting. IVE never installed a buick in a (Z) but a 500 caddy has been installed as has a 454 chevy so its possiable (but probably not easy) http://www.buickperformance.com/EngineBuild.htm http://www.taperformance.com/newpage11.htm http://www.taperformance.com/Cylinder.htm http://www.taperformance.com/intake.htm http://www.buickstreet.com/455buickstage3.html http://www.buickstreet.com/buick-links.html heres the link to the caddy 472-500 install http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101463 http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8191
Guest BigBlockMan
Thanks I am driving the engine right now in its orginal car (76' electra). You say it would not be easy, do you know of any of the problems faced when other big blocks have been dropped in?

grumpyvette
while theres nothing to prevent you from installing one in a (Z) youll need to custom fabriicate NEARLY EVERYTHING, the only problem areas I see are the engines WEIGHT 600 lbs-640 lbs and width which are both more /larger than the typical SBC engine

stjoetalon
I have a 455 on the stand. I have been searching for the right Z for a few years to put this in. Keep me updated on your progress.
Greg55_99
Although not a Z, this thread might be helpful: http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/read.php?40,538455,page=1 Greg
Guest imagadget
for your information a 455 Buick with an alum. intake and headers is 40 lbs lighter than a stock small block Chev. its much smaller in physical size compared to other big blocks because of the short stroke and larger bore and more upright cylinders. i think most torque of stock GM big blocks. I have been known to be wrong ask my wife:rolleyesg
jbk240z
Check this Buick 455 rebuild article........Got torque? http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/articles/buick/bigblock/0607em_buick_engine_build/index.html very wicked indeed! twoeightythreez
Buick 455 is actually not much larger than a buick 350...it's a little longer because the bore spacing is wider (it's needed because of the 4.315 stock bore size...buick 350 has 3.800 bore) It's really a non issue anyway because a buick 455 is much much smaller outside than say, a VH45DE, and that's been put in S30's now.
