MSA quality?

Well, soon I'll be purchasing some body styling for my Z... question is...

- what's the quality of the kits from http://www.zcarparts.com?

- how do the items fit? do they need modification, or do they go on fairly simple?

Here is what I am planning on purchasing.

Urethane Air Dam With Brake Cooling Ducts

Fiberglass ZG Flare Kit

Fiberglass Bumper Front

Fiberglass Bumper Rear

Do these mount up fairly easy? and how is the service from zcarparts?

Thanks for your time,

Those parts you have listed are usually always in stock with them, if not only a few days to get. Fitment is pretty good with all pieces listed, just need some filler work for the flares and bumpers to get them perfectly smooth.

I installed the MSA body kit, the front bumper was a piece of cake to install. The rear bumper was a real pain, with major gaps between the bumper and the body. I had to add fiberglass to the under side to fill the gaps. The side pods were twisted and were also hard to fit.

But all in all I did get everything to fit.

Do a search on this there are all sorts of input on this subject.

  • 2 years later...

I purchased MSA Type II body kit for my 1977 208z from Motorsports this summer. The car is finally ready to begin installing the body kit.

When we opened the box, we were surprised to find out how thin and flimsy the parts were. Also there was only one page of text (one side large font) and no pictures or illustrations for installing this kit.

Next we started to fit the parts to the car. The front bumper seems to fit reasonable well, however some modification will be required to make it fit properly to the fender and match up to the wheel wells.

The back bumper fits very poorly. There are gaps and high spots and very poor match up to the wheel wells.

The side valances fit very poorly. They are warped and do not match up to the wheel wells and do not match up to the contour of the panel between the door and the rear wheel.

It looks like I will have to overlay the inside of the panels in order to add more strength and fabricate a lot of brackets, braces in order to have a professional installation.

I did not anticipate that I would need to reconstruct these parts before they could be installed. They will require a lot of work and fabrication of braces etc.

I have seen many pictures of these kits on some very cool looking cars, but if there are any alternatives I would investigate. MSA quality appears to be poor.

The person helping me with the body work indicated that it will take at least $1000-$1500 just to rework the parts to get them to fit properly!

If you can find an alternative to MSA is diffidently would be worth investigating. MSA quality is not very good.
