evildky
anyone ever just modify the stock turbo? I want to change out the compressor side but cant get the compressor wheel off, the nut or bolt on the exhaust side is quite unique, anyone know of a special tool or special trick to get this thing apart? Clifton
They can be tight. If you twist too much without prgress it will gall up and you'll have a real hard time getting it off without destroying it. If it's being replaced it might not matter though. I would try some heat on the wheel, propane.
Clifton
Have you got the compressor nut of yet? The turbine side is part of the wheel/shaft. Only the compresser side is removable. It is standard rotation thread.
evildky
the problem is imobilizing the shaft on the turbine side, it's giot that wierd shape and no standard wrench fits it, so until I can lockdown the exhaust side i can't remove the nut on the compressor side
Clifton
I've seen atleast one turbo shop that had a tool that held the turbine wheel by the blades. I had one I couldn't get loose as the nut was trimmed alot from balancing. I wrapped a rag around the turbine blades and held that and had someone else break the nut loose on the other end. yo2001
You can put the turbine side nut part in the vise and turn the compressor nut with a T handle wrench to evenly torque the shaft. (don't want to bend it) and it most likely a reversed thread. Not many are standard thread
