Miles
We just shot some base coat, 4th dimension, by Sherwin Williams and went to color sand it before applying the clear coat. Tried sanding the base coat with 800 grit sand paper and the paint just gummed up. So we ended up stripping the whole car to start over. Are we supposed to sand the base coat before applying the clear coat? Do we sand each coat of base? Do we sand each coat of clear? THanks Miles
Bartman
I'm not a paint expert, but usually you don't color sand until the paint job is completely finished (all base and clear coats). When your color sanding, your actually sanding the clear coat and you don't want to sand through to the color (base) coats.
78zlt1
I agree with Bartman , with a 2 part system (color/clear) you dont sand any coats except the final clear, and there is a time limit you have to meet between coats. Color sanding is sort of deceptive , cause you really dont sand the color layers, like the old single stage paints of old.
