Guest Mike
I just pulled the heads from my SBC 350 (see pics). Does it look like these were modifed? I wonder why they didn't finish te job.
denny411
It looks to me as if they have been gasket matched, but not actually ported. Small gains can be made doing this, but maybe the previous owner wasn`t knowledgable enough or brave enough to attempt a full on port job. I`m almost finished porting one of my heads. It is very time consuming as well as nerve wracking.
lt1will620
looks like an attempted dremel home port job
Guest Mike
Yeah... a Dremel home gasket-matching job:lol: That said, these are pretty nice heads and more than adequate for a mid/mild street 350 below 6K RPM. I don't think I'll bother cleaning these up since I'm planning to build a 434 with AFR 200's anyway. I'll leave that to the next guy. dead2me
aluminum isn't a lot of fun to port..... cast iron is more friendly and forgiving..... aluminum balls up in your carbide bits pretty easily, and clogs sanding rolls.. a lot of folks try it themselves and give up.... lt1will620
keep some wax near by, it works wonders for clearing out the carbide bits when they fill with aluminum.
Guest Mike
I "may" work on these a bit, but just some minor clean-up. I'm not likely to keep these since I really want to build a 434 stroker and I'll need heads with bigger flow numbers.
grumpyvette
yeah, looks like a 1/2 ass attempt at a port match/minor clean up, I probably helped rather than hurt, so I would not worry about it, in fact ID personally pull the valves and do a pocket port and clean up the ports more if those were my heads btw this might help (don,t get carried away, minor tweaks and smoothing go far further than major screw-ups toward helping) http://www.diyporting.com/Shrouding.html http://www.ws6transam.org/ported.html
