Guest chevsun Posted March 8, 2001 Share Posted March 8, 2001 It all started when I realized my chevsun could badly spank my 72 vette so I decided to put some more HP in the vette so out with the motor off with the heads to the speed shop. then I need a bigger cam, right? And while the motor is out what better time to restore the front suspension. So by the second week of January and $4000 later the vette is done and the motor run through the break in and pushed back in the cellar (Still lots of winter left here). So I have this extra cam laying around and think I should put it in the chevsun. so two weekends ago I start that and realize that I can't just change the cam without rebuilding the heads so out with the whole motor and trans so I can detail the engine bay again. and these heads go to the speed shop. Then I get reading about the T-5 not being real strong (mine has held up fine) and I start thinking I am getting close to all the T-5 will handle. So if you havent guessed by now I ordered a T-56 from a 96 camero lt-1 today flywheel to driveshaft for $1300. Now I need another flywheel and clutch. The ones in the T-5 are new but I dont think I can use them. Does anyone know how to stop this obsession or should I just let the wife know how much all this costs and let her blow her top! The trans in out of an 87 firebird W/approx. 45,000 and works fine. It has not been raced by me. The clutch, haynes pressure plate, throw out bearing and flywheel all have less than 1000 miles purchased and look new. The driveshaft is 19.5 inches long and It is out being balanced right now and I should have it back this week. My wife is always giving me a hard time about all the money I am spending on cars.So I told her I'd give them up and start spending my extra cash and time in ATC'S, hunting, fishing,golfing..... she got the point. How can you stop something if you dont even understand it? Are there any 24 step programs for us? Is there even a name for what we have? Take it one step further....how do we know that we didnt have the problem prior to being bit by the Hi/Po bug; and that only after being bitten.....that we are actually normal-where as prior to being bitten we actually had the problem? Okay, I'm confused-too much analyzing....just give me a 1/2" & a 9/16" wrench, a screwdriver, a hammer and an engine; lock me in a rubber garage & I'll be fine!
