Administrators BRAAP Posted October 10, 2006 Administrators Share Posted October 10, 2006 Are you talking about exhaust or intake? If you are asking about Exhaust system size, 2 ½†is more than adequate even for mild race engines. If the engine is stock or slightly modified, 2 ¼†is just fine, unless you like it loud, than just go for the 3â€.

Administrators BRAAP Posted October 14, 2006 Administrators Share Posted October 14, 2006 so... 3 inch is louder? what is stock? Yes. 3" is lots louder... Stock is 2" with a couple of sound attenuating devices added from the factory...
gjc5500
Stock is 2in ID or OD?
johnc
Stock is 2in ID or OD? Exhaust tubing is always measured in OD.
OlderThanMe
Yes. 3" is lots louder... Stock is 2" with a couple of sound attenuating devices added from the factory... those would be "mufflers"...
auxilary
3" on an NA motor would cause you to lose a lot of bottom end power, and unless you have a stroker motor, the gain you'd see at top end wouldn't equal out the bottom end loss

Some thing like this on a 2.8L E36 BMW increased mid-range torque, flattened the overall torque curve, and increaded top end horsepower in conjuntion with a 3" exhaust.
