Guest 280zxdrift
Hello everyone, I am looking at purchasing a 1982 280zx as a drift car. The vehicle is in good shape all around, but being a former American muscle car guy I have little experience with these Japanese automobiles. My questions are: how well does this particular model (1982 280zx) function for drifting (advantages or disadvantages); and are there any key points that need addressing on this vehicle before drifting? Thanks.
Mr.INSANE
Its pretty well known that the Independent rear suspension isnt the best for drifting It has been done though keep us updated
PUSHER
Its pretty well known that the Independent rear suspension isnt the best for drifting Please let this be sarcasm. To the OP, get a 240sx, I just got back from a drift event yesterday in my z and its a pretty big headache versus a 240sx. You can say you want be hardcore and have the harder car to drive, I did the same thing and now regret it. Parts are also more expensive/more labor to install for the z compared to a 240sx. gogriz91
I thought all you needed was a bulletproof LSD and excess horsepower?
wigenOut-S30
When i had my 280ZX. it was actually very easy to drift. It was alot easier to drift then my S30. I belive it has to do with the simi trailing arms in the back of the 280ZX. When the suspension is compressed it creats a lot of camber and there for loses traction. I could drift my 280Zx pretty much exactly how I wanted to. my S30 just wants to stick. I think the 280ZX would be a good a nice change to see out drifting instead of the S13-S14s out there. driftz240
i made a s30 drift car and it does well, i imagine a s130 would be easier... my s30 feels alot like well prepared s13s ive drifted, you do however have to put hours and hours into developing the parts needed to do it...steering rack mods, lsd, suspension...and other little nitnoid tings... i say go with the z...be the only guy out at drift events without a s13...that stands out to judges also when you have somthing that noone else does.. derrick usdrift midwest outbrake motorsports

alexideways
I thought all you needed was a bulletproof LSD and excess horsepower? I think there is litle bit more to it than that. Like suspension work, a lot of it and brake balance are among them. Ho yeah, skills to.
