djz
Hey, does anybody have a pic of how the splined (CAS) distributor shaft should be positioned when its installed? Just want to make sure I've got mine in right.
djz
Does this look right?
naviathan
Are you at TDC in that pic? I could have sworn number one was angled more to the drivers side front.
roger.svoboda
If you look at the distributor cap it will have a line where #1 spark plug wire goes. AT TDC your rotor should be pointing at that line. This will get you close to where you should be and should be able to run the engine. It is very easy to get one tooth off on the drive gear. Engine will run but you will not be able to time properly with timing light. If that happens you need to drop the oil pump and then index one gear tooth in the direction that will allow you to set timing properly. Your pictures are too close up to tell where the thing is pointing.
ktm
Another tip is to draw an imaginary line from the two bolt holes shown in the second picture. The tang should be almost parallel to that line at TDC. Some call it the "11:30" position.
djz
Do the splined CAS style shafts go in the same way as the normal shafts?
Tony D
Just a reminder, the Turbo Oil Pump has a hole in it, which when aligned with the dot on the splined shaft drive gear, will allow the proper orientation when installed in the engine's front cover. This, of course, has at it's basis a given that the drive gear has NOT spun on the shaft at anyn time in the past---if this is the case, you need to line it up as in the photo above. Should i have the motor set at TDC, and have the oil pump shaft aligned according to its dot. What ive been doing is setting the motor TDC then backing the motor down until the timing indicator on the pulley is pointed at 20º BDTC. Then set the shaft @ 11:25.
