Forces
This is probably a rediculous question but here goes anyways. I have been looking for the correct temp sensor and have gotten 3 that won't fit. The first was like a snap switch with 2 posts for wires. Everything was comparable to the sensor in the JTR manual except for the end that wires up to the gauge....the second was actually from the dealer and was supposed to go into the water neck. This one that the right electrical connector on it (like the one in JTR) but it had a separate nut/ fitting that held it down. ) This won't work. The 3rd one cam from NAPA and though it was slightly different, it was the same fitting problem as the dealer version. All I have asked for at three different places was for a temp sensor that goes to the gauge for a 76' 280Z. Apparently this is the wrong question to ask. Guest 78sbc280z
first off i bought mine from z car parts and all it needs is a 1/2" pipe thread fitting if there is not one in the block find a water neck ith one if the electrical connectors are wrong change them its that simple but it doesnt matter where the sensor goes as long as it has coolant hitting it
VinhZXT
I found a temp sensor from a toyota I believe that had the same resistance range as the Z but it used 1/4" thread for my LS1 motor. I don't have the part numbers here with me. Got the part number TS198. Sorry they didn't list who makes it. My parts guy is on Vacation
Guest Mike
I use the stock L6 sensor with a threaded adapter... as per the JTR manual. Recently replaced it with an OEM from Autozone. Works fine.
Bartman
I used part #16-7110 Water Temperature Sending Unit, 70-83 Z/ZX and part # 16-7115 Retaining Nut from MSA as well as the Water Temperature Sending Unit Adapter from JTR.
MONGO510
Make sure and keep your terminology straight. A temp sensor is not the same as a temp sender! A sensor feeds info the the F.I.. A sender tells the gauge what to read.
VinhZXT
MONGO, You are correct. I think we were all refering to the temp sending unit.
piston
This one that the right electrical connector on it (like the one in JTR) but it had a separate nut/ fitting that held it down. this will be the correct on to use....the sensor that has the one pin connection and held down by a sepereate nut with 3/8 threads i believe. Guest Mike
Yep... I was talking "sending unit".
Forces
well, don't I feel like an idiot:? . ....That's what I was looking for. The stock "sending unit" isn't in the water neck, its in the head.
Guest Mike
I'm accustomed to feeling like an idiot. It's been so long since I've messed with anything on cars that I've forgotten much of it. Fortunately, hybridz members come to the rescue every time!!
