Guest BadKarmaCreepin
How are they? Any one have a set? Do they weigh a lot or a little? Anyone who has them: are you satisfied? Just a little curious, I found a couple sets from Centerline that I really like, but wanted to know what others who had the wheels thought first. Thanks. DavyZ
Dan, although I don't have Centerlines personally, I have spoken with Z owners who do and they really like them. They are relatively light and come in a variety of offsets. If you like them, I don't think you can go wrong. Davy
74_5.0L_Z
I have 15x8 in Centerline Billet Scorpions (style 91)on my 1974 5.0L powered Z. They look great IMHO, and are light. I have been Autocrossing the car with no apparent problems with the wheels. They use the stock bolt pattern, and have a 5" backspacing. I have 245/50/15 Dunlop SP8000 mounted on them. The tires fit inside the wheel well. You need coil-overs to use 5" of backspacing.
Guest BadKarmaCreepin
i wass thinking of putting on 17x8's all around. would i still need coilovers? or could i just pick up a set of springs and shocks to lower the car? thanks. dan
Mike C
I have a set of Centerline Billet Aztecs on my 240. They are 16x7 with 205 55 16s and zero offset. This is about as wide as you can go with stock springs. The wheels are well made and look nice. I prefer a wheel with exposed lugs, but not for 50% more money! Mine came from Summit racing at $167.50 each. Took about 6 weeks to get them however since it is not a common bolt pattern/backspacing combo anymore. Here is a photo. Guest BadKarmaCreepin
so i need a zero offset for 17x8's and coilovers? or zero backspacing? or both? sooooo confusing. thanks. dan
74_5.0L_Z
Backspacing and offset refer to the same thing but are measured differently. Backspacing is the distance from the inside edge of the tire bead to the mating face of the wheel. Offset is the distance of the mating face from the centerline of the wheel. For example, I have 15x8 in wheels (measured from inside of tire bead to inside of tire bead) each tire bead extends an additional 1/2 inch. Therfore my 15x8 wheel actually measures 15x9 from the outside of one bead to the outside of the other. My backspacing is 5 inches. Thus measuring 5 inches from the outside of the inner bead I place my mating face 1/2" outside of the center of the wheel. These wheels have a 1/2" offset. With stock springs, you are limited to about 3 5/16" of backspacing regarless of width. This backspacing assures clearance with spring. The width will be limited by fender clearance. Mike C
My 16x7 are 3.5" backspacing, zero offset. I think you could run 225 50 on these rims. I cannot as shoddy bodywork on my drivers side quarter would rub on 225. Quarter replacement is scheduled for the future, but still fighting a losing battle with the wallet. I would not run 8" wheels if I were you unless you can run at least 4.5" backspacing for outside clearance on the sheetmetal.
Guest Anonymous
I have a set of Centerlines purchased through Jim Cook Racing in 1988. 15x7 fronts and 15x10 in back on a 4 bolt patern for a 240Z. I think they look great and work very well and understand that they are still available, the 15x10 on special. For standared fenders 15x7 is probably all you can fit without significant rub. Mine has Imsa flares on the rear so that this is not a problem.
Guest JAMIE T
You can check mine out at http://communities.msn.com/JamiesZPage/jamieszcarphotos.msnw they are the oldschool type. My car is the gold one, the black one is just a badass car that I have to look at sometimes to keep me inspired. All Centerline wheels I have ever owned(two sets,Warriors and these Autodrags) have been of excellent quality. Guest Locutus
I have those same centerlines as you Jamie. I like them except I wished they were 15" or 16" instead of 14". They are very light, I can pick them one handed with no effort at all. Makes nice when you have to pull all 4 wheels for that suspension tweeking etc Mike
pparaska
I love those Centerlines! Buds in highschool, (over 20 years ago) had those on 70 Cudas, 66 Novas, Camaros, etc. They were the $h1t!
74_5.0L_Z
I have a friend with a complete set of the old centerlines new in box for a Z car. He started a Z project ten years ago and never finished it. They are 15 x 8 with 4" of backspacing. I know he would sell them at a reasonable price. Mike C
The autodrags are a 2 piece wheel. They combine inners and outers to get different backspacing and wheel widths. Unfortunately, 3 5/16 and 4 7/8 are the only backspacings available. Widths are 5.5, 7, 8.5 and 10. There are some 3 1/2 drag race as well. I have a set for sale of 14x7 with almost new 205 60 14 Yokohomas that I'll take $250 for, but you pick 'em up! Guest Anonymous
Jamie T, I love the way those look, especailly the raised whites. Remind me of the Enkies (sp?) I had on my Camaro! What diameter, backspacing are those? What tire combo, I gunna pirate it. (eventually...) thanx in advance!
Guest Anonymous
"With stock springs, you are limited to about 3 5/16" of backspacing regarless of width. This backspacing assures clearance with spring. The width will be limited by fender clearance." Not exactly... I have 4.5" backset 15/7 Welds and the inside is close, but doesn't touch a stock spring, of course I'm running 205's though. I had some crummy 14" slots on the car that had 3 5/16 with lousey 205's and they rubbed the outside lip on any spirited turns. *shrug* As you can tell, its not an exact science, and what will screw you up even more, is tire width from manufacturer to manufacturer will vary drastically even though the same size is used.
