What other options do we have vs the megasquirt systems.

I know I came from rx7s and we use haltechs and some others. Why are megasquirts the comp of choice of the Z and what other options are there when stock wont cut it.

Here are a few for you to research (there are more)...

Wolf3D

Motec

Autronic

Haltech

SDS

Electromotive

VEMS

Pectel

My personal choice is Wolf3D. In my opinion, it has the best combination of flexibility, power, ease, and price. Hence, I sell them.

Why?

Price, we are a group of bottom feeding cheapskates, and cheap rules the day.

Plus it works.

Being cheap and working are usually mutually exclusive, so it's a neat combination of those two attributes when you find them in one product.

But like Ron says, it just 'seems" like everybody is running Megasquirt. There are plenty of other systems out there (like he listed), all of which are on Z's. In the RX world, with the funky ingnition demands and funky fueling demands of the rotary, it takes systems designed around that... Megasquirt was difficult to get tuned on the rotary initially, and maybe that's why it didn't seem so popular from where you came from. I don't remember that many rotary guys on the old MS forums, but I'm sure there's a dedicated forum for them at msefi.com...just like there's a dedicated one here for the L-Engine swaps.

Like Ron said, use what you are familiar with, there is a learning curve involved with any new system. If you know how to tune one already, that makes a second vehicle that much easier to tune. Same said for support locally.

Through Jan 30th, Wolf themselves, is offereing a 10% discount to Car Club members. Also, If you donate $25 to HybridZ, I'll personally knock off $25.

I don't want to see this thread turn into spam (kind of late, I guess). So, if you have questions PM me.

WHy do I like MS?

It's cheap. I don't have much money, even though any extra always finds it's way into my Z.

I built it myself, installed it myself, and tuned it myself. And for less than what a shop would charge to LOOK at a car.

It works just as well as a mid-range standalone that costs more than I paid for my L28ET, my FMIC, my Profec, my gauge faces, etc.

Which saddens me, because since I did so much myself, but don't have a welder or welding skills,

it's gonna cost me more than I put into this entire project to get SOME STUPID INTERCOOLER PIPES MADE....because I'm stationed in SoCal where anything that has "custom" or "performance" or "turbo" on the building charges something like 200 bucks an hour and keeps your car a week or more.

DOH!

I'd buy a welder and learn but I'm going back to PA soon, and have nowhere to store the thing, for what the pipes are gonna cost me

(I've gotten quoted anywhere from 400 to 800 bucks for a charge pipe to the intecooler and pipe from IC to TB.)

I've done everything else myself and spent a bit more than 1500 bucks.

I guess I'll just not get my thing running and tuned till i'm back in PA.

Gotta love SoCal....freakin fast n furious craze means there are so many people willing to pay big bucks for shiny stuff, and people that just want quality work get sucked in too.

(unless they do it themselves)

Not that I'm biased against any Engine management system, but MS sure works for me.

The shop I was getting a quote from for the IC piping looked at me like I was an alien when I said "megasquirt" though...I think he thought i was talking about porn :)
