Guest black81_280zx
Ok it all started about 3 weeks ago... My #3 cylinder burns oil(like a qt every 100 miles) so I put one of them non fowler deals on the spark plug and some how or another it caused the plug to get hot and melt away. Electrode and ground strap enter the chamber and breaks a piece off my exhaust valve. I did a valve job on the head but didn't know about the whole tensioner nightmare so when I tried to put it back together the chain was too short. I dig into the front cover get everything lined back up, put the tensioner back in crank the car up and it runs like crap...... check the timing it's at like 8 or 10 degrees so I pull the valve cover and the chain has skipped like 5 or 6 teeth on the camshaft sprocket and is loose as hell. So now I'm going to get a new timing chain, tensioner and guides and put it all back together. Just wondering if anyone has anykind of input as how to do it so I can avoid having to take it aprt again????
JMortensen
Get a Haynes manual, take the cover off again, and put it together correctly with the right torque on the cam and crank and you shouldn't have any trouble. Sounds like the tensioner got you. Once that thing falls out you have to pull the cover to get it back in.

Guest black81_280zx
Well I finally got it running right. I put in a new timing set and it was still running rough turned out when I had to pull the head 25 year old injector connectors broke. I rigged it up with some crimp on connectors but was wondering if any of yall knew where to get some OEM style ones??? any newer cars in the junk yards use the same type connector? DCZ
>any newer cars in the junk yards use the same type connector? I got some injector connectors from a late 90's (I think) Pontiac Grand Prix. They are the nice ones with the squeezable clip, not the ones you have to pry out and drop in the dirt. Recommended! HizAndHerz
Lot's of V6 GM engines have the nice injector connectors. During a half-price sale at the local JY, I walked down one row of Buicks and Chevys and pulled about 40 of the quick release connectors. Cleaned the connectors and rebuilt 3 wiring harnesses with them.
roger.svoboda
Remember to put a stick in there next time you pull a head. needs to be about 7" long 1.25 inches wide. I made mine out of a piece of one by lumber (3/4" thick). drill a hole in it and attach a piece of rope strong enough to pull it out. After making that goof I now have one hanging in a prominent location.
