Airjockie
I got the wheels, and for the last few weeks I've been struggling on what brand, size, and compound to get to match the rims. I still can't decide if I want full grip, grip in the front and slide in the back, or just normal driving tires.... I originally wanted just a set of show rims...in case I actually get the body of one of my Z's cleaned up enough to be show worthy...so then I would just get some normal BFG T/A's or Dunlop qualifiers and slap them on for a set around $450 with shipping... I was thinking if I went that route then I would get 225/50/15s for the front, and 255/50/15's for the rear...and go for the JDM stretched look. But I drift and autocross... so the grip factor sets in....I can get a pair of yoko AVS ES100's in the front, 225/50/15's, and the same Dunlop Qualifiers for the rears, in the same size listed above...255/50/15...or go with 275/50/15's for more contact patch...but this set up would be for sliding. They should clear the current body flares I have on both cars in those sizes. But for the autocross sizes, then I would need wider flares, and get wider tires, prolly 255/50/15's for the front, and 295-305/50/15's for the rear... in some road race type tires. What other sizes are out there that will fit these rims, and clear a mild flared Z, with a one inch drop on stock type struts. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Dunlop&model=GT+Qualifier+T http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=Radial+T%2FA http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Yokohama&model=AVS+ES100 also the advans are sort of affordable for me. but only in the 225/50/15's. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Yokohama&model=ADVAN+A048 or just venture and get some used slicks and test and tune....if these would fit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/893-2-USDRRT-Hoosier-Race-Slicks-27x10-15_W0QQitemZ230029620382QQihZ013QQcategoryZ66473QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem other options??? I really like the look of this Z...bigger flares...that I can't find, but the wheels look the same size.. And I wish I could make out the tire sizes in these pics, but to blurry...but they are 14", but I kinda want the same profile as these. Hell...I wish I had these wheels too. http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n49121222 and these are the sex...but would never clear my brakes. http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/92588476
Airjockie
and for the record.... I have a CRX that had Advan A008's, a Civic hatchback with Advan A048's, a Subaru Legacy riding on KDWS's, and tires on other wheels that I swap back and forth on diferent cars, so I am kind of a wheel and tire whore. If I had my old AE86, I still have a set of Advan A048's on some 13" rims and some enkei rims. Plus some Goodyear Eagles on some Milli Miglias for the Z. I also have been attached to Falken ST-215's and ST-615's...but they are only on 14" tires. I like the durability of the Dunlop GT qualifiers, but they get to slick to control after 3 runs drifting...but they have lasted 3 drift events nad are just now getting down to the wear marks with-out the blocks falling off. I love the Azenis series...but no sizes available for wide 15's. I guess i really want grip in the front, and predictability and long lasting in the rear...with enough contact patch to move the car, but not too much to where it won't break free for a slide, and stiff sidewalls to feel the breakaway and control it...and to make a little smoke.... hehe maybe thats a dream tire.... NZeder
I really like the look of this Z...bigger flares...that I can't find, but the wheels look the same size.. These type B flares were specifically created for the race teams back in the day I am sure HS30-H will have more details on the correct history behind why they were created and if they were homologated for racing. Anyway you can purchase these from a few places in Japan. Here is link to one such firm http://www.aritaspeed.com/catalogue/aero.html Look at the S30 section there is pics of the flares and ZG Nose kit installed on a car. Dudeboy
Pirelli makes a tire that will fit on the rear the size is 345/35 -15 very expensive - Tire rack has them in stock from time to time. Lambhorghini Countach and Pantera owners grab this size quickly if they have not plus size there wheels. Michelin makes 2 tires TB5 and TB15 and you can get these at Coker tire or Longstyre in the UK. They have sizes perfect for 15 x12 and 15 x 10 size wheels, but get ready to empty your wallet !!!! Tire rack has them $491.00 a piece !! P-zero Asimmetrico
Airjockie
I searched half the morning....and damn those tires are almost worth gold...well...at least there weight in some exoctic metal.... but I did find some interesting tires that might work... for the fronts at least.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110064290412&rd=1&rd=1 if some tire maker made some 305/40/15's...they would have at least one customer.... how much is a safe stretch on a 12" rim....? Airjockie
$200 a pop for the rears don't look too bad...but I can't find the wear ratings for them....if they are above 300 then I might buy them...and get those in the ebay link for the fronts if nobody out bids me. Airjockie
FWIW....I scored 4 new Dunlop 9000 245/35ZR15 from Ebay, that auction I got out bidded, the buyer backed out and the seller re-listed with a BIN for $320, $80 for shipping, so 4 for around $400. At least I have the fronts taken care of, and spares when they wear down. hehe
