gexgexgexgex
I am getting my LT-1 ready to install into my 240z. I was putting the oil pan back on and i was 100% sure the bolts should be at 18 foot pounds, so i get it all tight and ready. I then start to double check somethings and find out the oil pan bold should have been set to 8 foot pounds. So did i just kill my new $30 oil pan gasket, or will it be ok and should not leak? nismopick
18lbs isn't much... I really REALLY doubt you did any damage to the gasket.
gexgexgexgex
so should i leave it at 18 pounds or take it back down to
80LS1T
You should be fine where you are. They are all even so you shold be fine. Like Nismopick said, 18 ft-lbs really isn't much even when compared to 8 ft-lbs.

schwiplarkin
what ever you do dont loosen the bolts, you have already compressed the gasket , if you loosen it it will leak!
MONGO510
What type of gasket is it?
gexgexgexgex
the gasket is all rubber with little round metal parts round each bolt hole.
DavyZ
the gasket is all rubber with little round metal parts round each bolt hole. Then it won't matter a hill of beans. The metal shims keep the distance constant between the pan and the block. You can safely back that off to 8 lbs if you want, but it shouldn't make a difference either way frankly with the quality parts you have. If this was a gasket without the shims (ie cork gasket) then that's a different story. Davy
