DeusEx
Hi guys, Its been a long time since ive posted (was in canada for 2 years) but im back and ready to pull the baby out of the garage and go nuts again. So i have a question, an old one, but one i never got a good answer for. Im looking to create a custom vent/map light console for the dash, ive seen plenty of pics but never any designs on how its done. Is this a very customized item or is there a process for it? And yes i realise one is a 240 and one is a 260, just putting the idea across
Lunar240z
when i took mine apart i noticed that there were 4 mounting holes at the corners that could be used attach a custom panel.

Bartman
It really is quite simple as posted there are four screws holding it on, one in each corner. You could easily create a new panel out of aluminum or whatever suits your fancy. What do you want to include into your panel? I kept the stock map light and vents and created a new piece just for the A/C and heater controls. I made two inserts out of steel and placed one in front and one behind the stock panel with the A/C control panel holding them together. 2126
If you've never attempted this sort of fabrication....make your pattern from some thin cardboard....like the cardboard on the back of an 8x11 note pad. Its way easy to cut out and or modify. Once you're happy with the panel design and layout, transfer it to the material you want for a final product. It should be fun! Tom This is good advice - here's what I ended up with using that technique... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=112290
DeusEx
damn thats tidy, so do you have to curve the metal (fibreglass whatever) to be able to screw it in place? cause those side screws come out at an angle
TimZ
damn thats tidy, so do you have to curve the metal (fibreglass whatever) to be able to screw it in place? cause those side screws come out at an angle I just made some new brackets from some aluminum scrap I had laying around. Same idea applies with using the cardboard first.
Careless
damn thats tidy, so do you have to curve the metal (fibreglass whatever) to be able to screw it in place? cause those side screws come out at an angle you can always place a small wedge shaped washer made out of a small plastic dowel. it would look nice if you did it cleanly, and it should be hard enough plastic that you can tighten it down so that it doesnt vibrate. i would even look at gluing some small rubber rings on the back to help vibration resistance even more. gluing them on the back makes them easier to align bolts through and such.
