ummm...

its XF falcon rear brakes, that can be modded to get rid off the rear drums. using the terry's idea for front brakes works here with our cars also..

Thanks for that link Zpeed. Gave me a couple ideas on other things too! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm in Bendigo, by the way. So would you know the best places to get Z bits in Melbourne? Any names of wreckers etc would be great.

'day Zpeed, I'm from Brisbane in the Sunburnt State. Those FWD Pintara calipers, are they iron or aluminium? They look a lot like Z31 calipers which are iron. Can't see why the bigger diameter Z31 rotors couldn't be used with that setup, DBA have a slotted version but they are a bit expensive.

Stony, anything is possible but fitting the late Holden Commodore front rotors would take a lot of work IMHO.

i talked to a guy that took holder front brake calipers and discs. redrilled the rotors for the lug pattern and drilled and tapped new holes in the strut and everything else bolted up. the rotors are the same or even bigger then most racing setups. get this with the exchange the parts were under 400.00 for everything

i habve yet to get any answers from the guys he said to email though ;<

Hi 260DET - the car Zpeed's linked to is mine. Now, you've got me on the aluminium/iron qu.; I think they're aluminium but not sure. They're fairly light anyhow. And yeah I thought about the other discs, but there was only a few mm in it, so I kept it all Pintara. Also, the offset on the others might have been an issue? I did all this a coupla years ago, and I don't have my DBA spec book to hand at the minute to double check. At the end of the day, for the driving I'm doing the discs I've gone with are fine. For that that matter, the drums mighta been OK too but you know how it goes....

Been doing a bit of research on the Pintara/Z31 type calipers. While the U13 Bluebird, U12 Pintara, R31 Skyline and some Maxima's all use the same repair kit, the Z31 uses a different one. What the difference is I don't know.

Anyway, the Pintara caliper seems to be a good conversion option, thanks to those who mentioned it.

Incidently, I have been using the earler RWD Pintara setup with PBR calipers. Its OK, the PBR calipers are light and durable, but the U12 etc caliper uses wider pads which suit the Z31 rotor.

Hi there Doug, as Stonie mentioned, ive used VT commadore front disc,s and calipers ( disc,s are 296mm ) the strut needs to have to new holes drilled inbored of the old ones, and the disc fits over the front of the hub( about 3mm is machined of the out side edge of the hub).

The offset is spot on and the parts are cheap, about $280 for two disc,s and the two calipers.

the parts are all new and come from HSV as they upgrade commadores.

My rear brakes consist of EF-EL XR8 discs ( 299mm in diameter and 10.5mm thick DB133) these are used with R31 skyline or pintara calipers with the mouting brackets modified to suit the biger disc, the offset is correct and it will just ( only just ) fit in a 15 inch rim. Have pics if you want to see, hope this helps.

Steven

Thanks Doug for raising the question in the first place. I am now in the process of fitting Pintara U12 calipers and Z31 4 stud rotors which looks like it will end up a neat and effective combination.

Have found out that the Z31 calipers have a larger diameter piston than the U12's and are generally heavier in construction, although the pads are very similar. But the U12's handbrake connection setup will suit better by allowing a straighter cable run.

No probs 260det, glad to be of service! icon_biggrin.gif

Could you post back on how it goes? I think I'll also go for the Pintara setup, seems like best option for me.

The caliper setup zedskid is using is neat and simple. Mines a bit more complicated, am using the left caliper on the right side and vice versa, mounted at about 2.30 o'clock on the right side.

This gets the bleeder nipple to the top but means that the handbrake cable runs near the halfshaft and the chassis brake line and bracket will have to be relocated. Both can be solved with a bit of work, this time its going to be done right icon_smile.gif

Be glad to post the results but it will be a while, the front brakes are being done, too.

Hey guys, does anyone here know someone with the nissan z32/skyline callipers and rotors on their early zed?

I've been looking at that swap, since the parts are so cheap and performance would be great.

Cheers,

rbZ
