rdsk8ter
ok here goes nothing I paid 450 and 50 shipping for these never installed them but now am thinking that a 7" wide tire wont be enough for traction. Is a 7" wide tire enought for a high hp z (500-600)? If not anyone wanna buy these rims lol also do you think a 9" rim would be enough to get some traction
80LS1T
Tire compound plays a bigger factor than tire size when it comes to traction. You would be surprized at what guys are pulling with 235/50/15. Now with a 16 or 17 you wont get as much traction because the side walls wont flex as much at lower psi's like the 15's but with a good tire you can get pretty decent traction with 235-245 tire. What do you need traction for? Are you taking it to the dragstrip or just for regular hard street driving? If its for the dragstrip just buy 2 wheels fo the rears and run these on the street with a high perfomance street tire. thats what I'm going to do. I only have 225/45/17 for street tires(BFG KD's(not KDW's)which are a pretty good tire actually, tread wear is only 200 though...). Mikelly
Go over to http://www.tirerack.com and educate yourself on section widths, tire widths, and the type of tire you'll need for your application. You'll also want to know what UTQG is and which UTWG rated tire you'll be able to live with... The lower the number, the more sticky the tire. The higher the number, the longer the tire will live. It's a balance between wet pavement stability, Dry pavement feel, and traction. You say 500-600HP. I can personally attest to the fact that it'll depend on those factors above. This week I've driven to work in a 600Crank HP car all week, rain or shine. The Pirelli PNero Zeros worked well in all conditions, so long as I didn't get stupid with the gas pedal. I'm personally shooting for two sets of wheels/tires for my track Zcar. I want a set with rain tires/street tires mounted up that will still be suitable for the track in wet conditions, and I want a set with some road race slicks mounted for the track on dry days. Guest zfan
I own a set of those wheels and have them mounted on my 71 240Z. I have 255/60-15 M/T drag radials on those exact rims and have run 10.80 at 125 plus 6.80 at 102 in the 1/8th. I see no reason to get rid of those rims but to each his own. That small tire and rim combo has left more than one hot rod humbled. You should see what it runs on the juice!
