I have a 1990 NA 300z and I'm tossing up weather to put a Rover V8 or

Convert it to Turbo, they weigh about the same an I would certainly prefer

listening to V8 anyday, The only thing is from what I can see on the net

the NA and the TT engine are same except ones a couple of hairdryers attacted, does anyone know for sure?? and can you get any serious HP from

a 3500 rover V8? I have read that the VG block can handle over 1000HP

Ant, welcome to the forum. The Buick V8/Rover V8 is a nice little package and would do well in a Zed, with or without boost. Since the car can handle an engine as large as a 5.7L Holden V8, I think the Rover would fit just fine, frankly. As far as the VG handling over 1000hp, I can't answer that, but I'd venture to say "No," at least not in stock form. I would be shocked to hear that Nissan made the bottom end that strong. You'd think they would have put better turbos on the car...

Ants,

I don't know too much about the VG engine but the newer LSx aluminum block engines from GM are quite light. Lighter than the older L6 Datsun/Nissan engines. Use the search function on this site and you can probably find anything that you could imagine.

Ok I see you are from New Zealand so im really not familiar with what kind of engines you have to offer down there, but being a stones throw from australia I imagine you can get your hands on LS1s. This engine is far better than the Rover engine, even if the only advantage was pure displacement.

I am/was in the same boat as you. I too own a NA 300zx and for the longest time I wanted to swap in the TT engine, which yes if built right can produce over 1000HP but that is a fully built engine including forged pistons, rods, cams, big turbos, big injectors, etc.... However, the TT engine is a real pain to maintain and is very expensive to modify since there are a very limited number of aftermarket supporters for the car. I am 99% decided to go the route of the LS1 in my car since it weighs over 100lbs less than tht TT engine and also give much much more room in the engine bay due to the narrow pushrod design. There is no set way, or kit to put this engine in the car though, so it is on you to make up some custom mounts and position the engine/tranny where you want.

As for your comment about the TT engine being an NA engine with turbos attached.....thats not the case....There are quite a few differences...this post is one that was made up some time ago about the differences...
