ktm
I am going to have a few ancillary parts of my engine either plated or powder coated, but I do not know which would be better. I am having all my nuts, bolts, hard line supports brackets, throttle linkage, injector plates and bolts, oil pan bolts, etc. plated with a shiny zinc plating. I am thinking about either plating (with black zinc chromate) or powdercoating the following: Fuel pump blockoff plate Timing chain inspection plate Water pump pulley Alternator pulley Alternator fan T-stat housings (this may be a problem plating as they are aluminum) Thoughts/suggestions are more than welcome. Matt K
My vote is for black powder coating. When applied correctly, will last longer & be more durable than the zinc plating. I've had a few zinc plated items rust within 2-3 years...
G.I.jonas
I agree,i actually just got some of my parts from the coater today.Looks pretty good in black zinc but it only seems to hold about half as well as powdercoating, plus it mimics the surface so any imperfections are magnified rather than smoothed over. het976
Powdercoat...Best looking finish. Aluminum is fine to powdercoat. I have a system in the garage and if it is metal it gets powdercoated...
