Hopelessly Confused
Hey guys, I just got a shifter from a camaro and im not quite sure how to hook the linkage up to my 4l60E tranny. Does any one have some pictures on how this is accomplished? Im not sure if it makes a difference but my tranny came from a caprice.
deja
Not exactly sure what you're asking. But the shifter cable just snaps onto the transmission linkage. And there is a section of the cable the bolts to the transmission just behind the linkage arm. I'll see if I can get some picts tonight. VinhZXT
It's a lot easier to use a rod instead of the cable. I used the stock 280Z's shift rod and custom make a handle that bolt to the trans. Here is a couple of pictures:

Z48LT-1
Hopelessly, I'm guessing your camaro shifter didn't come with the shifter cable. Here's what it looks like: The bracket bolts to a pair of pan bolts, the fitting on the end bolts to the shifter arm of the tranny, and the nylon fitting snaps onto a ball at the end of a lever inside the Camaro linkage unit. Hope this helps -- Gary BTW the fitting that bolts to the shifter arm coming out of the tranny appears to be permanently attached to the cable. Make sure it's included when you buy a cable. Z48LT-1
Hopelessly, Nice job of backyard engineering, and I say that sincerely. Did the cable length work out for you? I worry that my shifter may need a shorter cable to get the stick in a decent location, but of course my hybrid ('48 Chevy/LT1/4L60E) is a different breed from yours. Cheers -- Gary
Hopelessly Confused
Yeah, the cable is probaly a bit long but I got the shifter to fit in the orignal hole which worked out pretty well.
