Where to get OEM RB bearings in the US? (or should I use King/ACL STD?)

Well this past weekend when I removed the girdle I saw that my #7 main was more worn that I am comfortable with so I would like to replace the bearing, does anyone know where I can order the numbered/colored bearings? I called Shea @ Nismoparts but he would have to get them from JDM land and I would like to button up the engine sooner than that if possible. I looked at a few sites like McKinney and and XS but they do not seemt o have OEM stuff.

I know a lot of places in the US can get Cosworth, King or ACL bearings but I am a bit worried about just slapping a set of STD bearings in there and calling it a day... has anyone had success with this route?

Thanks

-Chris

Well Chris, I'm sure you know what you should do.... :nono: There is two ways to do it. The right way, and the way that wasn't the right way to do it... :cry2:

As much as you want to button it up now, I'd start to get used to the fact that you can't be in a hurry owning a RB motor. Everything takes longer than normal to get.

Please do yourself a big favor and get the correct numbered shells, and you'll sleep better at night knowing its 100% correctly put together.... :2thumbs:

Sorry for the rant.... just hate to see you regret not doing it the right way.

Joel, I def agree with you. I do not feel comfortable just putting in any ole set of bearings. I more than likely will end up ordering Nissan OEM or maybe some Nismo bearings that are numbered/colored.

I do have a guy who is contacting ACL to determine which size their STD bearing is equivalent to in the Nissan STD 0-6 sizing. Most places have been saying "if you have never machined the crank then STDs will fit" which just does not sit well... why would Nissan have 6 different bearing choices if that was the case?

I wrote about the bearings and included some pictures in my progress thread here.

Oh and I agree Shea is a great guy, I always give him a call when I need OEM parts :) Now if those idlers would come off backorder....

correct me if i'm wrong, but doesnt worn out bearings mean that the bearing cap, or possible the saddle itself is out of alignment? you might want to look into an align hone or an align bore, and then get the proper bearings to replace all of them if you really wanna button it up.

shiney areas or worn spots on the bearing are indicative of a slight warpage in either top or bottom, and should be fixed, not replaced if you plan to keep the engine long.

a little more money out the pocket, but for 300 dollars (thats what an align hone costs at one place here), i think it's a worthy investment. Just have some ARP Main studs ready for the align honing process. and if possible get the main bearing caps and bolt mating surfaces ground to flush as well. That will cure ANY bearing problems, even the ones from factory that were just done as good as possible with their equipment (it's funny, but some cars even come with factory undersized bearings on one or two journals to correct uneven crankshaft movement. surprising, but oh so true.)

I know you'll get it solved, just bare with the time it takes, and it will be more than you hoped for, because prep is everything (theres also a healthy explination on that in another RB thread).

Can you work on other areas of the block for now? such as de-burring the surface and cast flashing areas? might as well, seeing as it's apart.

Let us know where you're at in the build, post any questions that you have regarding things you're unsure about with the block, or things to do while you wait.

I know many ppl have a lot of experience they can lend, and i can sure use some of that knowledge too. =)

ALSO, i've been told that the ACL Race Series bearings are as good as they get, and they're made by the same company as Clevite, but they have special coatings on them, same as King.

But I havent heard anything about King bearings.
