Guest JAMIE T
I came across a Maxima that has the elusive caliper brackets that no one can find. I started pulling the calipers off, and need to go back to get the axles and stub axles out(I didn't go with enough tools, I wasn't really expecting to find these). Also, this car has a 3/81 build date. It is also a Diesel, and the motor is still intact. I'm thinking about yanking the motor to get the crank, though I'll likelly never build a stroker 6. I'm sure someone would need it eventually.
Tim240z
Jamie, When I pulled mine from the JY (caliper brackets), I put the socket with the power bar(PB) on the nut on the inside of the hub, with the handle of the PB pushing against the ground. Then I put a piece of steel rod between the wheel studs and jumped on it until the nut broke loose. PITA, but not impossible. Tim
Kinked_Chrome
yeah, these are a pain. Make you sure you have a big pry bar or cheater, and a couple spare sockets, I broke two craftsmen, then decided to get a snap-on. It's easier if you have a buddy. fl327
best way i have figured out is this, go to the jy's where they pull it for you, point out the part you need, and make them pull it while you watch them, at the spot i go to its about 10.00 more for them to do this, and its a great site to see. SleeperZ
In addition to your extra socket, long breaker bar with cheater and pole to keep the hub from turning, don't forget a heavy slide hammer. That is essential to pulling the stub once the nut is off.
Guest JAMIE T
What size is the stub axle nut? I went with 30mm and up, but they were to big. So, I went today and bought a 29mm, a 1 1/16" and a 1 1/8" deep sockets. I have a large slide hammer, and a pinch bar thats 4 feet long. Remeber this is for a '81 Maxima, I don't know if it is the same as a Zcar.
