Z-8
I have a question about my '79. It's pretty much stock right now, I have a LT1/T56 going into it. I had an ignition problem once, and it took me awhile to figure it out, but after doing some crazy tinkering, removeing the key ignition and replaceing it with another, and some other stuff, my heater/A/C controls on my dash don't get any power. The A/C side I'm not worried about because I've removed most of the components. But I do want the heat for defrosting, and cooling down the radiator. I've looked through a lot of stuff in my repair manuel, plus tried finding all the fuses I could and they all seem good. Does anybody have any thoughts or ideas for me? That would be great. roninjiro
is it just the blower motor that isnt working or all you lights and such?
Z-8
It's all the lights for the controls, plus they don't work either. The heater used to work, and I would get hot air. But after messing with the ignition problem, something got effed up.
(goldfish)
Does it blow any air? Did you test the fuses?
roninjiro
sounds like you wiring harness under your dash might have been ate up by mice or just rot.... 2 of my zx's were like that
Z-8
No, it doesn't blow air. I think that the control panel isn't getting any power. I did check the fuses in the fuse block. Maybe there is something in the engine bay that got blown. I've looked in my repair manuel, but it doesn't show anything that helpful. I found a fuse on the motor itself, but it was fine. Thanks for trying to give me a hand on this, this whole thing really bugs me.
Pilgrim
I have a basic rule - figure out the simplest thing that can cause the problem, and check it first. I'm wondering if you had the dash out and unplugged the harnesses on the right side of the dash. Could it be that one of them didn't get re-connected? It's worth dropping the kick panel and having a look. Don't forget the unit right behind the glove box.
Z-8
I could have done something like that, I'll have to re-check it. Maybe I didn't seat something down tight enough. Thanks for the help Pilgrim.
roger.svoboda
There is a fuse on the fan motor itself which if blown won't allow the fan to blow. check that while under there. there is a post somewhere with a picture of what to look for.
