gretchen/jason
About how much more inward tire clearance will a coilover set up in the rear give me over the stock strut setup or are the coilovers about as wide as the stock coil springs in a 280z .I havent found any threads that give measurements Jason
buZy
Hey Jason, My rear coilover springs are the typical 2.5 inside diameter. The outside diamater of this spring is 3.45. The lower coilover seat itself measures 3.50. I do not know the outside diameter of oem type springs. The oem spring seat on the strut tube itself I would imagine dictate a slightly larger diameter. So maybe like this??... OEM spring seat diameter and subtract the 3.50. Then divide that number by 2 should get you closer to the extra tire clearnace. Hope this helps. blueovalz
Depending on the coilover spring length, you may gain some additional clearance by positioning the tire under the lower spring perch. I've purchased some 7" springs for this purpose, but have not installed them as yet.
gretchen/jason
That would be helpfull as im running a tire with a tread width of 11 inches 12 inches overall width on a 7 inch wide rim with stock backspacing ive ordered wider rims though . Mikelly
Are you planning to flare the car? If not, you'll possibly be able to squeeze a 265 series tire under the fender, with it rolled, but a 275 series won'd go. I tried this with my setup and was able to get 1/16th inch clearance between my 9.5inch wheel/275 series tire and the coilover setup with the 2.5inch diameter coil perch set above the tire. Now that I have adjustable control arms and camber plates, I could probably have moved the tire in a hair more to make a 275 series tire work, but didn't try it, and now I've got flares on the car... mike
