nakagusukumike
There is about a 6 CM difference in width but a dremel and some welding can fix that. I've got a 180SX for parts and I was wondering if it would be smart to try to use the crossmember from the 180 in the Z? Cut out all of the steering rack mount parts, weld in 4 studs and bolt the second crossmember to the Z instead of using the prefabbed stuff and or making my own mounts. Either way it's a light amount of fabbing... just wondering has anyone done it? Height comparison?
Lunar240z
Are the mounting points for the control arms the same? This should probably be in suspension. And if youre doing this to mount an SR20, itd probably be way too far forward. The mount/crossmember i made is probably 3/4 of the way back in the engine bay, with the stock crossmember being the halfway point. edit....wait. Is this just to mount the engine? Well in that case, it'd probably interfere with the TC rod buckets.

Careless
you'd have to put the tc rods on the opposite side of the cross member anyway so it might be a good idea to cut out the buckets and reinforce that area if you want. Im going to be doing this as soon as i get my car sandblasted in the spring. I'll have to make new frame rails which is probably why I don't care at all at this point about cutting it up, but the TC rod buckets need to be located to the front of the frame rail and not the firewall location from factory, so you could get away with using it.... 260DET
Yeh this should be in the Suspension section so more people are aware of it. If I was doing another fairly powerful engine swap into a S30 a S13/14 front end would be a priority. It is a superior setup with a better stronger suspension design with lots of aftermarket support, dampers, brakes, etc. It may take a bit of fabrication work but the S30's chassis needs beefing up anyway, its too flexy for a poweful engine, say 300whp or more. The rear end is not so critical, particularly given the improved aftermarket support of late.
majik16106
i was thinking of doing it with both front and rear for my new toy. i was gonna take the dash/rack/ps and all with it.as far as engine mounting, i was going to pretend like when we did the 7m. "ignore" the engine mounts on the s13 cross member and build a new mount/cradle further back.basically use the front end for the suspension/steering/brakes.
