Mauisnow13
I bought my 1970 240z today for $200. It does run. I drove it home. The main problem I'm trying to fix right now is the wiring. The key won't start the engine for some reason. We did find some stray wires in the bay down by the starter, just can't get them to hook up so it'll start up. The lights are all kinda screwy I think. One of the reverse lights won't go off. Plus, I was in the car tonight and noticed that when I pushed the brake, the interior light and dash lights would go on. I'm planning on getting it to the Local Z Specialist (Idaho Z) sometime this week so he can take a look. I really just want to be able to start it by key instead of having to do the crossover hotwire thing. I'm super excited, and hope to check out the body this weekend for rust and stuff. Looks pretty good. Not much surface rust. It is a pretty straight body. I'll try to get pics up tomorrow. Any opinions or questions welcomed. Thanks, Mauisnow13
Mauisnow13
I was pretty surprised by the power in it. Hadn't been ran in a while, but was very responsive and didn't run very rough at all.

Austin240Z
Nice job nabbing a running Z for $200, I pulled mine barely running out of a junkyard for $500. definately do what bucket240z said, check all the grounds, sounds like you've got some shorts in your lighting, you're gonna have to tear through the wiring to find them. A multimeter is your best friend. if you're going to disconnect any wires, make sure you mark them. On my car, all the wiring under the dash is screwy... Blue wire goes to Red wire, purple wire goes to yellow, so on and so forth.... if you arent paying attention it gets VERY confusing trying to remember what wire goes where.... We'd love to see pictures of your new car. Good luck to you.

Mauisnow13
Thanks for all of your input. I cleaned out the interior tonight and even for sitting outside for a year, it still has some shine in it. I did find some spots on the floorboards where it was rusted through, but I expected to find a few. I plan on welding in some new sheet metal. I haven't decided whether to just cut out and weld around where the holes are, or just weld in all new floorboards. The guy that owned it before the guy I got it from was an idiot with the car. The interior is spray painted different colors, and his wiring is horrible. I found so many loose wires under the dash today. Especially around the fuse box. Looks like I'll have to go over them all and figure it all out. I took a cellphone picture today. Can't seem to find my camera right now. Never can when you need it. haha. I'll post the pic in a sec. COZY Z COLE
What's the Vin number of your car? Here's a link to some info you might like to know. Click on the links on the left side....http://www.zhome.com/ LARRY
Mauisnow13
The VIN # is HLS30-01542. Why were you wondering? I also snapped some more cell phone pics of the car today. I got a couple of the interior also. Thanks for the link, I actually found that page when I was researching Z cars when I was just getting into them. Good Info. Here's the pics. COZY Z COLE
The VIN # is HLS30-01542. Why were you wondering? If that is the correct VIN number and it has a manufactured date of 1/70 your car is a very early produced and rare Z and you should register it on the site I had linked.... Mauisnow13
Yes, it does have a manufacturing date of 1/70. I'll register it right away. It's exciting to know it's rare. haha.
COZY Z COLE
If it was me I would post your same info on this car on this site...http://www.classiczcars.com/index.php? Just remember that it is a classic car site so I'd leave any mention of modifying it out of your posting... They will go nuts about the condition and the price you paid for it.... Also mention the Vin number and Manf. date of it.... LARRY
Mauisnow13
I posted it on the classicZcar site. What should I do to this car first? I believe I will repair the rust first. Or get the wiring straightened out then the rust. It's my first Z so I'm not really sure. haha. What do you guys think?
