I wouldn't say forget about the N1, for a basic rebuild I think it would suit most people's needs, and I am not sure why you would use a stock pump over a N1 pump if you are doing such a build, esp considering its cheap price. Granted if you are considering a JUN/Tomei/HKS/Greddy/Nismo then yeah, don't even consider the N1 because it is in a completely different class.
