mikesz
My car has ran rich since i did my turbo turbo swap.Car wouldn't rev and ran sluggish.I thought that my oil pump spindle was off a bit.Set the motor at tdc, pulled the spindle out and aligned the two punch marks. I also put new plugs in as well.Went to start her up and it just sputters out of the tail pipe.I have spark,no vacuum leaks and good fuel pressure.I pulled the ecu plugs in and out several times.I'm lost and any help would be greatly appreciated.Oh, I have an 83 turbo motor. olie05
sounds like the timing is off. Hook up a timing light and verify the timing. Also, make sure the plugs are gapped correctly.
mikesz
Dosen't the car need to be running in order to check the timing?
steveosupremeo
yes, it must be running to check timing with a light. double check your firing order on the distributor and make sure it is running in the right direction. ( i did that once and felt like an idiot when someone pointed it out)
mikesz
My plug wires are in the correct order. When i turn the car over it sputters out the tail pipe, like it wants to start.Any other thoughts?
olie05
ok you got me. in order to verify the timing, set the engine to TDC (cam lobes of cyl 1 at 10 and 2 o'clock) and check to see that the distributor rotor is pointing toward the front of the car. Tony D
Check to see that your drive tang is at that funky 11:25 position. If it's not, you either skipped a tooth going in, or your gear has spun on the shaft, in which case all bets are off, and you have to 'align it without the marks'... JeffP pins his gears with a 3mm hardened roll pin after we witnessed his distributor drive spindle gear spin almost a full 180 degrees while on the dyno! Thumper
Another way to easy check if its timing. Remove the bolt that holds the dist and turn it. If it starts but runs bad all the way one way then you are off a tooth. It could also be you're problem from before has gotten worse.
