lol that's not too bad. with my 78 it was like this

oil change

fuel filter

fuel pump

spark plugs

plug wires

cap/rotor

brake master cylinder

water inlet

lower rad hose

steeringwheel

AFM

fuel injectors

water temp sensor

after all that im' hoping it passes emissions.

oh also changed all the fuel lines

I still need a new radiator though.

plus side is no rust. But mechanically besides the rust, that's not that bad.

alright, myself and a former datsun mechanic (he even remembers when these first came stateside lol) worked on it for 4 hours last night, and it still wont start. timing is good, we are getting PLENTY of fuel (the plugs keep getting soaked) and we have spark and air...wtf.

can anybody point me in the right direction?

I think you answered your own question. Sounds like you are getting too much fuel. soaked plugs don't work very well.

check the things that make it run rich. high fuel pressure, bad connection at the temp sensor (2 prong connector), stuck starter injector, ect....

change the plugs, shut off the fuel pump, try starting with starter fluid only, if it kicks over, then you are running to much fuel.

figured it out.

the timing chain jumped a couple teeth due to alot of slack in the left side of where the timing chain runs....

wtf....

i really dont want to get into this car too much since i paid 250$ for it...

I don't think that is possible. Why do you say it jumped a few teeth?

Fyi, when checking the location of the timing marks, it can take as many as 12 engine revolutions to get the timing marks and chain marked links in the right place. Just pulling off the valve cover and rotating the engine to tdc and looking at the timing marks (1,2, or 3) is not the way to check which timing mark the engine is on.

do a compression check. if there is low or no compression then the timing could be off.

see i deceided to part out a 78 2 seater only after it BENT when I jacked it up! I knew there was some rust but the ends of the car just drooped when i jacked it up. Honestly, it has still been worth having around for the mechanical parts

My "good" 76 has a couple holes in the floors and left rear(and front hod hinge area" which i still consider not bad. Anywhere youget snow you need to learn how to weld.

the left side of the chain is looser than a 50yr old prostitute, and the old datsun tech i have helping (and teaching) me said thats a sign it could have jumped. also, when you crank it, it pushes air out through the intake, and one time it spit fire through the intake.

compression test is as follows...

#1 130

#2 120

#3 125

#4 130

#5 125

#6 130

im tempted to just sell it for for 150$ and save up for a 260.

its got some good parts on it at least....
