Think I'm gonna make it :o)

Recommended Posts

Scary, but I will do my Rip imitation ( sure wish HE was doing it..:o) and finish the body work/prep and shoot the primer tomorrow afternoon/evening (weather permitting), finish the final smoothing Sat a.m. and shoot the color and clear Sat afternoon and Sunday. Going to run 16 coats of Firemist Red, try some ghost flames and shoot 8 coats of clear. Will let it vegitate until next Friday and begin rubbing/polishing. Hope to be purty by Sat.

Road tests and test run on the 1/8th mile here last Sunday. Running very rich but don't have time to tune it as my guy is prepping a bunch of cars for the Bradenton NMRA and can't get at me. Running rich with timing backed way down, 6 lbs of boost and the alternator belt came off during the burnout, ran a 7 flat at 96 mph. I'm guessing I'm leaving at least a hundred horses on the table at 6 psi untuned. I'm still going to run it at DNI and see where we can get...:o)

See ya there!

Wow, that's an agressive schedule! I hope the weather cooperates but it doesn't loook good this weekend, rain tomorrow and cold Saturday. Good to hear you've got it running, rich or not. I can't wait to see that beast!

Plan B (always gotta have a Plan B) is to close the ends of the cover, plug up two sets of heat lamps and paint away! Shooting Acrylic Lacquer with medium drying lacquer thinner, so about the time it hits the car, it is dry (not quite that fast, but darn close). Wait about 10 minutes between coats...the more I look at it, the more I am shying away from the flames...will take too long to do them right. Can always add them after. My wife suggested it would be fun to take it there the way it is...not sure why she wants me harassed within an inch of my life....go figger...:o)

And to think that I thought I was running behind...all I need to finish is the driver's side trailer fender.

The car is done...the tranny adapter works perfectly. The 2004R tranny works perfectly too (shocked, because I built it myself (first time inside an auto tranny)) and with the gearing of the tranny, the 3.70 rear end and my killer turbo stroker L29.6 (that doesn't look right for some reason), I'm able to chirp the tires at EVERY shift, 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4...so hopefully it stays together long enough to make a decent (non-photo op) pass this time.

Still learning to drive it with the manual valve body and ratchet shifter...sure makes it different, but fun nonetheless. Haven't turned on the boost controller yet, and only have a 2.5 lb spring in the wastegate. Can't wait to get to the track and crank up some boost. Gonna be fun for sure.

Glad to hear you're done Warren. I too am looking forward to actually making some runs this time. I have no clue how to drive this car on a strip so its going to be interesting to say the least. I have an in-car video mount in my car so I can record anything stupid I do, LOL.

I'm sure it will come out better than my pitiful attempt at rattle can painting. I'm going to have to get my spoilers and rear valance painted by some one that knows what they're doing. I totally suck at body work and paint prep.

Warren, sounds like you have your stuff together...I'm glad for you! Looking forward to see that baby run!

Hey Dale, who on earth said I knew what I was doing? I'm just gonna pull the trigger and hope the car gets in the way...:o)
