Guest pauli
as i asked a couple weeks ago, are the r200's and r180's in the front of 4x4 hardbodies and frontiers the same as in the back of old z's? the powertrax diffs for r200's and such are there, from what i understand, due to constant bugging by the 4x4 nissan crowd (i'd bug them too, but i don't know if i want to spend 300 on a new diff for my truck, rather than z owners. DavyZ
$300 is a reasonable sum. I want to see more info when this comes out. I'll be game for something like this for sure!
Guest Anonymous
WOULD ANYONE BE INTERESTED IN A BULK BUY FOR A DISCOUNT?
Mikelly
I certainly would at that price... Mike ------------------ http://hometown.aol.com/dat74z/myhomepage/auto.html "I will not be a spectator in the sport of life!" mjk
clint78z
Expect them to be fairly low for the 4x4 crowd . Probably a 4.11 which came in alot of 4 cyl pickup trucks .
DavyZ
4.11 gears? Ouch! Hopefully they will have a (slightly) higher set and the low 4.11--not all of us want a drag strip car...
Andrew Bayley
Even for some of us weekend warriors, a 4.11 is too much. Let's hope they offer at least a 3.7 -Andy

So no gear ratios involved, guys. The nice thing is you will be able to take that 3.545 or 3.364:1 open R200, swap the parts into the carrier and leave everything the way it was (leave the pinion where it was, put the carrier side bearing shims back where they were) and the gear pattern on the used gears stays the same. Seems there are a decent number of Open R200s around still in good shape that this would work for! Since it's not a clutch type system, I guess it won't wear out as quickly? Put me in for one! ------------------ Pete Paraska - 73 540Z - Marathon Z Project pparaska@home.com Pete's V8 Datsun 240Z Pages
Guest Anonymous
Looks to me like it's a mechanical locking dealie, which is inferior to a clutch or viscous assembly. And for $300 you can get a whole clutch lsd.... The only thing I would even consider spending money on is a torsen assembly from quaffie, that'd be really sweet! ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
pparaska
I haven't read it thoroughly yet, but they have a TECH BULLETIN on their site that touts it's virtues, and says it's not really a locker, as in a Detroit Locker, per se. Looks promising though. It replaces the side and pinion gears (and clutches if equipped) of any diff carrier and no special tools or procedures are required. ------------------ Pete Paraska - 73 540Z - Marathon Z Project pparaska@home.com Pete's V8 Datsun 240Z Pages
Guest Anonymous
If it's not a clutch, viscous, or torsen diff, then it's some sort of mechanical locking device. Fine for drag racing and around town, but not what you want on a racetrack with turns and such. For $300 I'd still just get a clutch diff. You could fit a viscous for marginally more $ and more work and it'd be better too. ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com
Guest Anonymous
I HAVE ONE OF THEIR UNITS IN THE REAR OF MY 78 CHEVY 4X4. I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT ACTS LIKE A POSS IF YOU ARE GOING STRAIGHT. ON A TURN THEY UNLOCK TO ALLOW ONE WHEEL TO TURN FASTER THAN THE OTHER. I CAN TELL YOU THIS IS A VERY STRONG UNIT AND TAKES ABOUT 30 MINUTES TO AN HOUR TO INSTALL. REALLY EASY. I HAVE HAD MINE FOR 6 YEARS AND STILL WORKS LIKE NEW. I E-MAILED THEM AND THEY WOULDN'T TELL ME WHEN THEY WILL HAVE THEM READY FOR SALE BUT THEY SAID THEY ARE GOING TO KEEP MY E-MAIL ON FILE AND E-MAIL WHEN THEY HAVE THEM READY. I TOLD THEM I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A BULK BUY AND THEY SEEMED INTERESTED. THEY SAID THERE WOULD BE A DISCOUNT FOR THE BULK BUT NO EXACT NUMBERS THOUGH. BLKMGK
And me about to slap my clutch LSD into the rear of my car too Ah well, if I wind up needing different gears this will make life MUCH easier!
pparaska
From reading their Tech Bulletin, I'd say it could be described as a smooth transitioning Locker. It sounds kind of like it turns into an open rear in a corner, but they say that in a high G corner both wheels get power. I need to study it more to understand that. Guest pauli
the way i've understood the no-slip unit is that it's just like other lockers, except that it is completely smooth.

Exactly, not worth 10 seconds of thought unless you're a straight line only guy. I would NOT want that in any of my cars I did higher speed driving in, track or even just touring trips. Applause that they made a smooth locker as that is valuable to straightliners and may be desirable to some here. But to none that I know inquiring above with twisty interests. ------------------ Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. randy 77zt
i read an article in a 4x4 mag about them.they take the place of the side gears and spider gears.easy install.dont know much about engagement smoothness though.never really had a traction problem on road courses any way . Mikelly
Ross' comment makes me wonder if this thing really would be useful to those of us who spend our time in the twisties... Not good if it turns into a posi rear, and if that is the case, count me out. I'll keep what I have for now! I am gonna have to swipe a finned rear cover for my R200 though...need the additional cooling and gear oil capacity...
