biohazard53188
So I just recently installed a turbo on my n/a 1980 280zx. Turned out the turbo needed a rebuild so I removed it. I reinstalled all of my n/a components and noticed that my car was running like crap. I started removing the injector plugs while it was idling and the only one that did not make a difference was the number 5 injector. I tested the wiring harness and it was reading about 14 volts so it checked out ok. I figured it was the injector (big assumption on my part) and purchased a new one. That wasn't the problem. I decided to check the plugs and sure enough plug 5 was fouled (it was all black). So basically my car is running on 5 cylinders and the lack of power is killing me. I replaced all the plugs and tested for spark and its still running like crap. Now my new plug on number 5 is starting to turn black (and oily). What could cause this? I searched around the forums and must posts pertain to improper air/fuel mixtures but I did not make any adjustments to that or timing so it must be something else. MJLamberson
Big fatty guess: Maybe try reseting the ECU?
biohazard53188
Big fatty guess: Maybe try reseting the ECU? Wouldn't that just consist of unplugging it? In that case doesn't unplugging the battery do the same thing? (sorry that could be a dumb question)
jeffer949
Sounds like you have a bad oil ring and oil is getting into your cylinder. Id start with a compression check and go from there
MJLamberson
To reset the ECU you have to leave it, or the battery unplugged ofr a good 15 min I believe, but remember, that was a big guess and I really dont know if it will solve your problem. mario_82_ZXT
Sounds like you have a bad oil ring and oil is getting into your cylinder. Id start with a compression check and go from there Bad oil control rings won't show up in a compression test (most of the time). If you were pinging practically at all on this setup, more then likely you have busted ring lands or oil control rings. This will show up in a leakdown test. mario_82_ZXT
You can't. It's an analog computer that has nothing stored but the burned values from the factory.
