Phillip
Need assistance with the removal of the flywheel and clutch on the 280Z. How do I keep the flywheel and clutch from TURNING, when I am trying to loosen the pressure plate bolts from flywheel. Should I go to the front main pulley and use a ratchet? Thanks, sorry if this has already been posted was looking awhile and couldn't find what I needed.

jeffer949
Ya you could spend 80 bucks on that OR you could take a piece of chain and put one bolt through the end and bolt it to a pressure plate bolt. and then a few links down put another bolt into the bellhousing. You could even do this with thick wire and wrap it around a few times
Lukaniuk
I've never thought of using a chain. I'm going to try that next time. I usually end up just wedging a large flat screwdriver between the floorpan and exhaust or something and holding it with one hand while I turn the wrench with the other. Usually if I swear at it enough it works.
jeffer949
or take a C-clamp and clamp the flywheel to the aluminum dust shield and then losen the bolts.
Lukaniuk
Impact wrench will make short work of the job

m4xwellmurd3r
there's what, like 6 bolts that hold it on right? whenever I had to replace the clutch on my old VW, i just did it by having the ratchet on the end then facing the length of it towards the center, then pulling it up (or down, depending on the side) in a way where the torque is applied in a fashion that negates the flywheel from turning. kind of like how you put a tire on a car while the wheel is freewheeling in the air with no brake on. doing it this way becomes harder as the bolts get closer to the center, but it'll work as long as it's not something like a gland nut dead center. chb280z
When I took mine off i just put a 2x4 under it and used a 26mm deep socket to block the flywheel from spinning anymore by propping it up on the 2x4 and wedged it between another bolt and loosened them all no problem. Oh yeah you need to use a breaker bar.
