240zKidd
So, I don't know whats going on with the oiling system on these cams... Some N42 heads I see oiling tubes for the cam... Some cams are internal. Will the N42 block and f54 support both oiling sytems of the cam? And what years did they do what? I got in a huge argument with my dad when looking for heads because he thinks that my bottom end will only oil right with a oil rail and that my bottom end won't oil properly for the internal cam oiling setup? How does the oiling setup work... Some head gasket have the oil port in the middle of the block and some don't ... Can some one break down the oiling setup the years the head gasket and bottom end oiling to the head (oil jets)
JMortensen
Stock for the early cars was a solid cam with a spraybar. You can run an internally lubed cam with a spraybar. Stock for later cars (76 and on?) was internally lubed cam. You cannot run a solid cam with no spraybar. The spraybar gets fed from the cam towers, which get fed from the hole in the picture. There is a bit about opening up the hole in the How to Modify book, I would not recommend it as it will get you lower oil pressure it idle. 240zKidd
Thank you, that helps a lot... Is tthere any place I can buy a brand new cam and rocker arms and tablets to redo the top in of my head...? and is it better to have internally oiled cam with a spray bar? There is a 280z that goes to sonic a lot by my house and he has a pressured bottle that forces oil on the top of the head... Does any one know what this is? I live in denver and its a super lowered 280z with full roll cage a teenage kid drives it...
naviathan
No clue on the pressure bottle oil thing.. As for new parts, search the archives for cam manufacturers and regrinders. You can get new lash pads and rockers from MSA (thezstore.com).
JMortensen
The bottle is likely an Accusump. Not necessary unless you're pulling extreme g's in the corners on a racetrack. Some really anal people will get one to pressurize the oiling system before starting the engine, but when these engines routinely see 250,000 miles the Accusump starts to seem a bit silly.
