a twin turbo model has an R230 rear end with a clutch type LSD

while an n/a model has an R200 rear end with a viscous LSD

and the gear ratio in the diffs are different; nissan decided to save money in doing this, rather than making two different transmissions.

Nope... not correct!! They both have VLSD's.

whats the difference in vlsd and clutch ones? sorry newb ?

Correct me if Im wrong, chances are I am.

ViscousLSD's consist of two halfshafts, theyre controlled by viscous liquid and these fan like thingers that help control the flow/pressure between the two when spinning at the same speed, when one wheel has too much power, the pressure of the liquid and other mechanisms adjusts to try and compensate for the other wheels lack of power.

ClutchLSDs are LSD with numerous clutch plates/gears (not sure what the proper term is exactly) between the two wheels that balance the power between the two wheels at a more/if not completely constant rate of power.

People have their own opinions as to which is better between the two, price being the major difference, and most technical ♥♥♥♥ Im still learning about.

I fail. Im n00b too bro

All Z32 come with a viscous LSD. Note that gearing for NA's is quicker than the TT gearing. That is really the only difference between the two other than 6-8 bolt mounting to yoke of driveshaft.

By "quicker gearing", you mean deeper/numerical higher, (4.09 for the N/A vs 3.69 for the TT), and an even bigger difference between those diffs being the TT is an R-230 which is physically much larger and heavier at 114 lbs vs the N/A R-200 at 72 lbs.

For those interested in the IRS/IFS diffs Nissan used in production cars/truck/SUV’s, I encourage you to read through the stickies at the top of the "Drive train" section of this site. Here are a few of those threads pertaining to ALL the diffs offered in the Z cars, as well as few other Nissan Diffs that have been adapted to the Z cars by various members, even the non US cars such as the Skylines, with detail specs, weights, gear ratios, bolt patterns, spline counts, pics, illustrated parts break down, strengths, weaknesses, availability, etc;
