RocknTommy
R200 from a Z31 NA What is the best way to remove the C-clips when they remain in the differential after pulling the half shaft? Tried with a long pair of needle nose but these things seem tricky. Is there a trick? Those buggers are in there. Thanks!
JMortensen
Haven't done this before, but it sounds similar to pulling out a stubborn snap ring. I'd probably try with a straight pick and a hook pick, one to pry it out of the groove and the other to pull it out.
NZeder
Why that is were they are meant to be inside the diff. Nissan changed the location later from inside the diff to on the axles on the later short nose R200 (that is my understanding)

Nissan changed the location later from inside the diff to on the axles on the later short nose R200 (that is my understanding) The clips are supposed to come out with the half shaft. But in some cases they like to hang insdie the differential. I had an issue the halfshaft not locking in so that is why I am pulling the clips, put them on the halfshaft then slide them and hopefully they lock in tight. bigbore468
Had the same problem trying to get the circlips out of an LSD unit. Try using 2-3 small (.100" or less diameter) picks; start at center of the clip and put the picks between the spline and work your way towards the ends. Once you get a couple picks in place, you can slip a small flat head screwdriver between the clip and spline and eventually should be able to flip the clip 90 degrees and pull it out with a hook. Good luck.
RocknTommy
My update. With a bit of a struggle I was able to remove them but they got a little bent in the process. Trying to dig up the part numbers for these little buggers. This is an 1985 Z31 NA diff. So far I can only find them for the 87T plus and those are LSDs. EDIT: They might be all the same since all Z31 halfshafts will fit the CLSD. Double Edit: All clips are the same
LowCarbZ
Sorry for bumping an old topic, didn't want to make a new one after searching. I ran into this problem tonight. I've pulled the struts, halfshafts, control arms etc. out of the rear end to replace all the bushings and u-joints. I'm also installing a pair of Koni Red 82R 1812's that my dad had in the garage since brand new that he never put in his Z in the 70's. Anyway, my driver's side halfshaft came right out without the c-clip on it. Anyone have any luck with a part number? What type of damage would occur from running the shaft in the diff without a new clip? I can't see where it would have any movement once everything's together. But of course there's a reason for it and i'd love to be corrected. Anybody?
RocknTommy
The old clip should be fine so long as when you install the half shaft that it clicks in there nice. You will feel it lock in. Mine did not want to seat right, well, it felt like it anyway so that is why I replaced mine. Edit: Here is the part number: 38225-N3100 Edited April 7, 2009 by RocknTommy Forgot to list part number
LowCarbZ
Is that part number through Nissan?
