78280z
I have read that the rocker panels and quarter panels provide much of the structural support of the Z's unibody. Since I will be replacing both rocker panels and rear quarters on my Z, I am wondering how to go about ensuring that the unibody does not come out of alignment while I am replacing the panels. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice!
Brad-ManQ45
For the rocker panels - put an X-brace in the door (do one at a time). For the quarter panel, I would just have it on jack stands...
johnc
Do one panel replacement at a time and weld in the X brace per Brad's suggestion. If you can pull the engine and transmission that will remove some load on the chassis.

Looks like I should have researched this a bit more...
johnc
would it be ok to replace one side without the x-brace if it's just a BARE shell, on a rotisserie? I wouldn't do it. I've done three rotisserie floor pan and rocker panel replacements on 240Z shells and I always weld in an X in both doors before I start any work on the car. I weld them in with the door shut and then remove the door.

johnc
Is it likely my car may now be misaligned if I did not put in any bracing? I don't know. The body measurements diagram has been scanned and is posted somewhere here on the site. Do a search and then check the numbers on your car.
