When I fill the tank it only reads 3/4 of a tank. it also occasionally "wobbles" quite a bit, about 1-2mm in each direction. Any ideas on what could be wrong? bent floater rod in the gas tank? m4xwellmurd3r Posted June 30, 2008 Share Posted June 30, 2008 My fuel gauge does something similar. when it's empty, it reads as FAR as the gauge can (way way under E) when it's full it reads about a half tank. BUT I can't really trust it too much. I'm going to pull the sender out and see what's goin on with it. I don't mind it being stupidly inaccurate though haha. it's one of her quirks I like. SHADY280 Posted July 7, 2008 Share Posted July 7, 2008 if you really want, the fsm actually has specs that tell where it is supposed to be at certail points. it may require bending the rod the float is on, but it will be accurate. mine does that too, but i dont feel like pulling my tank out, not really worth it yet unless the odo breaks. I already replaced my sending unit and o-ring with OEM Nissan parts because the old one had gone south long before I bought the vehicle. My new parts only read half full when the tank is completely full. I just brazed the fuel vent line back onto my tank and while I was there, bent the float rod a little to try and compensate. Gollum Posted July 16, 2008 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I've owned 4 280ZXs... They've all had very accurate fuel guages. It might just be that the sending unit needs to be cleaned up.
