Fuel Pressure Drops

Recommended Posts

I start at 6psi, but when I get home and check the pressure it is at 1psi. I have a summit 140gph fuel pump located near the fuel tank even with the bottom and a holley dead head regulator. I will be switching it out to a by-pass style, but I don't think the pressure should be this drastic. My first thought was vapor-lock so I switched to steel braided line and moved it to the outside of the frame rail and away from the exhaust. I routed it away from the headers (which are wrapped) but the pressure still drops after I drive for a while. Any ideas???

some electric fuel pumps quickly heat up and loose effective pressure if the regulator won,t allow a constant flow of fuel thru them to absorb and carry away heat, thats one of the many reasons a bye-pass regulator with a decent size fuel line from and returning too the tank is a superior design.

dead head regulators just don,t generally work very effectively anyway, and you need to use the correct fuel line and filter, a 7/16"-1/2" inside dia. will supply most HIGH performance SBC engines, you can get by in many cases with dual 3/8" inside dia lines for a mild upgrade but the common 5/16" lines almost always pose a restriction
