well, replaced the temp sender..the one with the male plug on the

thermostat housing and did get the gage to work.

but, when removing the sender i had to use a lot of elbow grease to

get it out of the housing ... i drained the coolant just below the upper

hose, but when i removed the thermostat a lot of coolant spilled over

and on the intake manifold. cleaned it off. replace everything back.

started the z and white smoke everywhere and i noticed a tapping

sound around the thermostat housing or injector 1 or 2..tap tap tap

louder than the rocker arms themselves.

eventually the smoke when away but the tapping sound still there

with a big loss of power..fixed a problem just to create a problem..

what an idiot..

before all that the z was running real nice and crispy.

please help..what have i done?

Hi,

I'm 18 and just got an old 82' 280zx and its got real trouble starting. I got it servised and whatnot but a mate told me the other day that he reckons it's a faulty temperature sensor. And as a result its not injecting properly to start or something...

Does anybody have any ideas why my 280 only starts once every 15 goes?

The temp sender for the gauge has nothing to do with the temp sensor for the EFI. They are completely unrelated/independant of each other.

Thread moved to Troubleshooting, and retitled.
