Hotrodpez
The bolts holding the halfshafts to my diff are rusted / frozen in place. I have tried penetrating oil, no dice. Do you guys think it would be ok to heat them up with a propane torch, or will I fry the seals in the diff? My only other option is to let my 800ft/lb impact gun loose on them, but that'd probably shear them off and then I'm really screwed.
Challenger
Break them off with the impact gun. Bolts slip out the other side and your done. Get a set of new bolts and put it back together.
Six_Shooter
I had this problem on an R200 I pulled from a parts ZX, I was able to get 7 of the 8 to break loose, with using lots of penetratig fluid, and a lot of leverage. One broke, and will need to replace it, if I decide to use it. Do the stubs that are in the diff just pull out?
Hybrid240z
Try using PB Blaster: http://blasterchemical.com/display.cfm?p=50003&pid=4 I use it all the time and it seems to be the best penetrating fluid out there. Good luck.
grumpyvette
http://www.freealloil.com/ is the best stuff Ive found, repeated heating with a propane torch (190-250 degrees F...water misted on the part boils very quickly but, doesn,t instantly turn to steam) and spraying with that stuff letting it sit and soak, for awhile, then try twisting the part out firmly but don,t strip it or bust it, then repeat the process, a few times, tends to loosen lots of rusted bolts
Hotrodpez
Got some PB Blaster at Home Depot. Stuff works pretty darn good. That and some careful torching got the bolts off. (Note to self: PB Blaster is flammable when hit with a propane torch )
m4xwellmurd3r
when I had trouble with my exhaust pipe being rusted shut, I ran the car till it was burning hot, then sprayed PB blaster on the pipe. the heat of the pipe, combined with the cooling of the PB blaster, caused it to get pulled into the threads. let it sit for a bit, and it came off without any work at all. Sam280Z
Kroil: http://www.kanolabs.com/ Way better than PB Blaster. I've never used FreeOil.
kiwi303
CRC 5.56 is what I use, a very good penetrating oil.
