lgoodson@pacbell.net
Hello again. Still putting this LT1 together. I'm now exploreing the placement of the computer and have considered putting it where the battery normally goes . That would mean, ofcourse, relocating the battery. I have read a lot of the posts on this subject but most are 2 or more years old so what is the current view of the Odyssey Dry sell batteries. Model PC 680MJT is small and would fit under the pasenger seat but would it be a good choice. It claims a 680 Cranking Amp ability but has any one had any recient experience with these batteries. Customers at a NAPA parts store today spoke very highly of them. Thanks for any input. Larry

aziza z
I just bought one as well (for the ls1 car). Haven't tried it yet but when I do i will post my findings.
Bartman
I installed the PCM for my LT1 engine in that area as well and started out with the Odyssey battery installed behind the passenger's seat. I eventually upgraded to an Optima as the Odyssey let me down a few times. It worked fine at first, but after a while it would die if it couldn't start the engine right away. Searching around I found some people refer to the Odyssey as good for light duty or warm weather, but no where near what you get from an Optima. 240hoke
I have been using a PC680MJT for quite a while. I have been impressed with the pattery but keep in mind its still a small bettery regaurdless of how you look at it.......any current draw with the car off and its gone. Leave your dome light on, anything....and she wont start in a couple hours. Good thing is though they can be deep cycled hundreds of time and they charge up to full charge in a little over an hour. Sumo
That battery has only 220 Cold Cranking Amps and only has 17ah. You may want to look for a bigger battery because even with most custom bikes they have problems with them. As far as regular bikes and regular use they are excellent batteries. We hardly have problems with them as far as warranties go but i wouldn't use something with little capacity like that for the Z.
EMWHYR0HEN
Ive been using an Odyssey for almost a year now and no problems so far. As some have mentioned you cant draw power from it for long periods of time. When I got my car aligned my brakes were applied for a while and the brake lights stayed on. Sure enough my there wasnt enough juice to turn over the engine. I would go for it if you only need the battery mainly for starting.
lgoodson@pacbell.net
Thanks for all the input. I have been looking at the PC925 Odyssey that has 28AH but as far as cold cranking amps is concerned I don't know as it is not stated in the specs, just 925 for 5 sec, 870 for 10 sec and 765 for 20 sec's. I don't know if that is enough. I would like to be able to play the radio at a show for a few hours with out worrying about a dead battery or to be able to use an inverter to operate my laptop without problems. What do you all think. I was concerned about working it too hard during the process of getting the engine up and running. Maybe I can find a smaller more powerful battery. Optima? 74_5.0L_Z
I have had my Odyssey PC680 for about 3 years. I been very happy with it. At the last autocross event, my clutch master cylinder failed. I was completely unable to shift the car. My solution was to put the car in second gear and start the car in gear on the starting line. Not the fastest way to get started, but it allowed me to make my five runs. The Odyssey battery pulled my car about ten feet on the starter for each of the five runs before the car started. After the five runs, I used the starter to pull the car onto the trailer. At that point, the battery was dead. Am I happy with the Odyssey? You bet. Just don't leave the lights on. Here is a link to video showing me start the car on the line in second gear without a clutch: http://blip.tv/file/1376878
lgoodson@pacbell.net
Starting a car in gear is pretty hard on a battery so the 680 I think did very well. It's a motorcycle battery not a LT1 or LS1 battery. You know, everyone talks about leaving the lights on. Just how long should a battery last with the lights on. With headlights I would think maybe a half hour or so. How do you rate these batteries and how long exactly do they last with the lights on. I need a frame of reference. Thanks for the input. Trying to make a decision here, 680 or 925. Larry
lgoodson@pacbell.net
So Bartman, you put an Optima in your car. Where abouts? in the stock location or in rear or what? If you are racing the car I suppose you don't have any need for a spare. If you kept the stock location where did you locate the PCM. I am looking at tucking it back behind and under the inspection lid out of site with the smaller battery sitting in front of it. On another note, since you too have an LT1, how did you get the wiring figured out? Any help or direction would be appreciated. A lot of people have chimed in and they have been a lot of help and I'm getting it figured out but not quite. Thanks Larry
