zyainaz
I usually answer my questions using the search function but this time I must post. My wife (God bless her) ordered me a coilover conversion kit for my V8Z for my bday, giving them the basic stats of my car. They sent 8" 340lbs/in front springs and 9" 280lbs/in rears! Am I wrong, or are these ridiculous spring rates for my application? I was thinking 10" 225fr 250rr would be stiff enough for spirited commuting. Was also wondering if Tokico HPs would work ok w/ aforementioned rates, or do I need to invest in Illuminas. Any strut P/Ns for sectioned tubes would be appreciated. Oh BTW, apparently the staff at GC gets a kick out of looking up all of their customers on my space and then asking them personal questions. Kinda creepy if you ask me... Thanks to all for the best Z forum out there!!
V8INtheZ
Lol, yes those springs are gonna be too stiff for a daily driver. Most guys run something like a 180 front and a 225 rear. Stick to that area and you should be fine, but ymmv.
johnc
Those are race car spring rates and you'll need Koni 8610/8611s or some custom valved Bilstein shocks to work with those springs. Send them back and tell the GC guys to stop snooping.
MoNkEyT88
How much do a set of springs cost from ground control anyway?

MoNkEyT88
Geez, 70$ each.. I already have coil overs, but it would be almost as cheap to buy another set from them at 400$ which comes with the springs.
2eighTZ4me
I don't understand what all the fuss is about stiffer springs. I've read you'll need a kidney transplant with anything over 250lb springs. I have 345 lb. in the rear and 315's up front, in a gutted race car (which is street driven too) and it really doesn't ride much rougher than my DD 280 with Tokico 200 / 225's. Maybe it's because I'm a young 42 years of age or something - but I just don't get it. "I" can't tell the difference. I know they're 345's and 315's because the guy at Carrera carved the rates into the top of the springs. Course - I don't drive a Lexus or an SUV with ridiculously floppy suspension either. Maybe it's just because I'm used to it....I guess????
johnc
Ride harshness has much more to do with tire sidewall height, tire air pressures, and shock compression damping then spring rate.
2eighTZ4me
Exactly!!!
