ColtGT4g63 Posted January 26, 2009 Share Posted January 26, 2009 If you have a hot wire going from the Alternator post, to the battery. And also have 12V at the wire in the plug with the engine running, and still have no charge, then you need to replace the alternator. That is providing that the alternator is grounded properly. lgoodson@pacbell.net Posted January 28, 2009 Share Posted January 28, 2009 I have been told by people that make harnesses that you need 12 volts to the " L" terminal on the alternator but you must put some resistance in line so as not short it out. This 12 volts will "excite" alternator and turn it on. Keep It clean guys. 350 OHM 1/2 watt resister is what I was told to use, Available at Radio Shack I believe. rookie z Posted January 29, 2009 Author Share Posted January 29, 2009 i put the resistor in and it started charging , but by the time i went to check the voltage it stopped charging.i tried it 3 diffrent wires with the same results ,so do you guys think i should replace the alternator or rebuild it or what next?
