silver280zx
Ok, so the line i had on my 79 model went from the ignition advance like in the second picture, but instead of going to the throttle body, like yours, it went to the vacuum line going into the brake booster and t'd into that. But i changed that, its now like yours.
Smokescreen
Cool, I have no idea why it would tie into the Booster. I just hope that mine is right now, lol. I have had no problems l8ly w/ it, and I just serviced the TB and got it back to cleanliness... car runs ALOT smoother.
silver280zx
The guy that had my car was a delta engine mechanic, and i figure, that by tieing into the brake booster, it pulls vacuum on top end, advanceing the timing more on top end. Now that i fixed it, it does feel more sluggish on top end.
Smokescreen
Interesting... What RPM Range does it get "Sluggish"? I'm askin' cause mine doesn't run that great after about 4500 or so(rough estimate). LOL Maybe I should be getting a look at your previous set-up. Do you notice anything on the bottom end? silver280zx
It def feels a little more torquey on bottom ned it gets sluggish around ya like 4500-5000, It used to pull hard to about 6000. Im taking it to a dyno soon, so im goignt o tune the MAF as best i can, there, and ill do the ignition also and see if theres a difference in hp curve on the dyno. Smokescreen
Wow! keep me posted on the results.I have a Brand new MAF and I don't know how to tune it. I may be buggin ya if theres a better set up for our cars, cause I hate that mine dies off up high. I don't have ANY trouble as far as dependability but tuning may be a fun deal. Anyways, keep me updated. Jason
Smokescreen
Also a buddy of mine who has "Guru" status IMHO, says that the timing on the 280Z is 180 degrees adjustable, which can cause some serious comfusion when tuning... Just thought I would drop that on ya before you go tuning... The Zx's may not be set up that way, or they may; I'm not sure...L8r

silver280zx
Ya i dont know what the heck was going on. I do know that the guy who had it before me was a delta engine mechanic, and he fiddled around with the car alot. When it warms up some im goign to hook it back up to the brake booster and do some testing.
Niku-Sama
yea lemme know about that, it would help me with my vaccum mess if its just as good or better. i wish my PO was just smart, instead he was MR STP and thought the rist fix in the spray cans was all you needed to fix rust....for ever....thankfully there isnt much on there
silver280zx
I figure it will draw some vacuum at full throttle unlike the place. it supposed to be at.
