MJLamberson
What area of the car is it coming from?
rookie z
its coming from the diff. im sorry ,i thought i said that.
MJLamberson
Might want to check your Ebrake cable, mine fell loose and rubbed against the drive shaft, not good. How is the condition of the rearend? oh, and check that nut that holds it down, there is only one right under it but if its loose your rearend will clunk. maybe ask a friend to slowly back it up while your checking things out to get a better idea. MJLamberson
Drain and put new gear oil in her? couldnt hurt even if it doesnt fix the problem. Just make sure you get the filler cap off before you drain it, Ive seen come diff covers where it was actually impossible to get the filler off, like the one I have on my car, haha. deja
My LT1 did that one my first drive. It turn out to be the JTR driveshaft flange was hitting the sway bar when I backed up. I ended up just removing the bar.

rookie z
which ,the ones on the axles or the drive shaft. the ones in the shaft are new,i know thats not saying much.
deja
I was shocked and relieved when I found it. I was sure it was something expensive, like the diff or axels. Apparently the diff pivoted down enough to allow the flange to hit the sway bar when I backed up. thanks , i will check that .never thought about that but i will let you know. Administrators BRAAP Posted February 22, 2009 Administrators Share Posted February 22, 2009 So it it sounds/feels fine driving forward, no clunks, clicks, etc. But in reverse only, it clicks. Is the clicking dependent on amount of load being put it the drive-train while backing up, or all the time as the car is rolling, such as coasting in reverse? rookie z
thanks everyone! it was the driveshaft hitting the sway bar.
deja
Maybe this is a 280Z thing only. When I posted mine I don't think anyone else had that problem. thanks everyone! it was the driveshaft hitting the sway bar.
